My acne started over 2 years ago and since then I've been seeing a derm. This whole time I've been 2 times on tetralysal, have been using differin, epiduo, my derm kept sending me to a beautician for manual facials which basically was just having my whiteheads and bumps professionally popped ( don't know how to properly translate the procedure's name) which I belive could have had an effect on how my face looks now. The thing is, my face has been almost acne-free since the summer of 2012,occasional pimples here and there, I only get more intense break outs in winter, but even when my face was clear of acne it still looked like it wasn't, but the problem is that it's not just red marks, the whole area where I get/used to get pimples is really red. It gets worse when I work-out and does feel pretty hot. Now, the only thing that seemed to help a bit was the oil cleansing method and then me putting mix of argan oil and tea tree oil, however, I broke out after that, it clogged all of my pores and I even got blackheads which I never did before so I had to quit it (I got extreme redness from new pimples so after all it only made matters worse) and go back to epiduo.
It's just really upsetting because how am I suppose to treat something if I don't know what it is.
I was born with atopic dermatitis, I grew out of it, I no longer get any dry patches on my body but maybe what I have on my face is somehow related to that?. I'm eating quite healthy now, but my diet used to be really horrible even a year ago so I thought that maybe due to that and being on and off on antibiotics for the past 2 years I have developed candida overgrowth?! My tongue is a bit white/yellow coated and I have bumps at the end of it. Please, help me figure out what exactly is wrong with my face, I'm so tired of it, of being ashamed of my face and having to put on foundation even just to go out with my dog, because it looks like I've been attacked with needles.
The photo was taken in the morning, the lightest it can get so there's nothing irritating it whatsoever, even the areas where I never get pimples are pink.
Looks like hyperpigmentation from old acne to me. Thats weird though it should have faded more if you havent had acne since 2012. I dont think its rosacea though. Hopefully someone else can help you out!
Unless she still breaks out on the areas that would be makinng it worse... Then again they can just be red marks that take years to go away. See if you can get a series of IPL treatments, that should help you out alot.
Maybe my skin just isn't able to heal by itself , the thing is that only my cheeks are effected by this, recently I got a huge break-out due to ocm \(maybe) and my pimples barely left marks on my forehead and chin, they never do, it's just my cheeks, they just seem to be really flushed and irritated, before that break out I was almost pimple-free for a year ( went again on tetralysyl after breaking out last winter again, and before that winter I was then again clear for half a year I belive?!) and my skin never seemed to get better. The only skin condition that seem to resemble mine is acne rosacea, I have seen so many photos of pih/red marks and nothing reallly looks like what I have.
The pattern of inflammation kind of makes me think rosacea. Flushing, feeling If things like spicy food, hot showers and exercise seem to make it worse, I would definitely talk to your doc about rocacea. What stinks about being misdiagnosed (and it is very, very common), is the medications commonly prescribed for acne can seriously aggravate Rosacea. In the mean time, try avoiding anything that could be a potential trigger, spicy foods and hot showers commonly aggravate symptoms.
Whenever I mention rosacea my dermatologist would just avoid the subject, the last time she became so defensive as if I was blaming her for the state of my face. .She's seen me in this state without make-up only one time though, she thought that it was just erythema and she can see it healing/getting better, it's not. I seriously wanted to belive that theory but there has to be something if I feel my face flushing when I excersise or take hot baths or get really anxious, is it possible that I don't have rosacea but still get more red while doing these things, maybe because of dryness of my skin, or it's just natural for some humans?
I also thought that maybe I'm not gentle enough while removing my make-up, I use cotton pads and maybe I'm too rough with them? but if that was the problem wouldn't my skin be just red afterwards and not permamently ?
