any thoughts on the redness leftover from the dryness? ive tried lots of moisturizers and have read that it can actually make the bad sebum production increase causing more redness. i also have tiny cracks that look like spider veins, without the veins.
I heard that prosacea can help with redness.
thanks for the luck Ceci,I did search on amazon but can't find that soap.. I think I am going to order the one you have.
Do you have for me the product brand name of your shea butter.. Does your skin look fat if you put that on? You wash your face once in the 24 hours with the sulphur soap, how do you wash your face on the other half of the 24 hours?
I try the same way as you do... cause there are many differences between products.. and than the result will be different as well.
I am using now that sulphur soap for one week on one side of my nose i still got.. but I notice less rash now and do moisturise it with oil of olaz regenerist brand name. but still really tiny rash when I rub my finger strong against the side of my nose and wrap it up and downwards.. this is for me the ultimate check.. and still got a tiny itch.
Somtimes I take godliver oil.. that will help for sure.. but not too much and only once in the three days like taking on the same way the vit b pills.
It is strange that I am low on calcium cause I take everyday 3 cups of yoghurt.
Did I already wrote down the results of my Stool test?
For sulfur soap, you can search in Amazon for sulfur soap and see what comes up. I don't recall seeing one on there that was 10% sulfur but they have a few that are 5% and 3%. You can also google it. Try sulphursoap or kaviskin. I think theirs are 10% (I haven't tried them though). And you'd have to find out if they ship to Holland. The shea butter I got from agbangakarite. For shea butter, just make sure that it's unrefined shea butter. By "fat" I guess you mean if it plumps up my skin. I haven't noticed any plumping except when I put it on my lips. It does keep me moisturized all day long. I do not wear makeup, so at night I just wash my face with warm water.
Also, I've taken apple cider vinegar (with the mother, like Braggs) internally. 2 tablespoons mixed with a little bit of juice twice a day. Cleans (detoxes) the colon and helps clear skin. Also great for arthritis, fibromyalgia and gives extra energy (or at least it did these things for me). I had to stop taking it though because it was messing with my menstrual cycle (it stopped it). But many people do not have a problem taking it. I might try it again but with only 2 tablespoons of ACV/day.

hi Ceci,
I looked it up... Is this the right one?

That explains more about the AVC.. and menstrual cycle... The SD got to do a lot with the hormonal thing especially when you look before in the other posts... like the woman who got pregnent and than the SD disapears. or it comes in some woman who are getting in the age 40 and more.. you know what I mean..
When did you stop taking AVC?
take care
I got this from a straight year...I can tell you for sure that it is because we produce too much sebum. In fact I've got acne+sd...All the people I know with SD (they're a lot!! this topic doesn't do much justice I guess since it's an acne forum but still they are a lot of people) have oily skin and...most of them are males. Males because we have got the fucking testosterone which makes our skin much more oilier than females...
I tried lots and lots of things but it'll never go away so yeah I decided I won't utilize anything else on my face (it's not so bad on my face..) while on the scalp I utilize an oil-shampoo called Restivoil and always have short hair which seem to help with the flakes. Internally you can take high doses of zinc (for a long time) for the inflamation, which means you will have to take copper as well because its dosages will eventually go down (deficiency), and omega-6, which helps with the dead dry skin.
Another thing.
This patology is very often confused with another called 'sebopsoriasis (google it)'. Here is the difference between sebopsoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis:
Sebopsoriasis has a more yellowish, greasy scale than the typical silvery, dry scale associated with psoriasis. It will occur not only on the scalp, but on the face and chest - similar to the pattern associated with that of seborrhoeic dermatitis. It is deeper red in color, has more defined margins, and a thicker scale than seborrhoeic dermatitis alone.
Bye I hope I helped!
I've been a SD sufferer for 3 or 4 years, at first I didnt know what it was then with the help of this board I figured it out. I really dont like it, i blow off my friends a lot when its very bad. There always like your so lame, if they only knew what it was like.
i do the exact same thing, and yeah people call me a loser and a flake (no pun intended, lol)
I've had decent luck with Head and Shoulders but I see that it is not very good for your skin, can I ask what the sulfates do? Is there a zinc blah blah blah only treatment?
someone posted a link about a water-based zinc gel somewhere "up there." i'm not absolutely sure why sulfates are so bad for your skin, i use selsun blue about twice a week & i havent had any problems...
As far as the steriod method my brother has had good luck with it however he does get red if he doesnt use it. Whats so bad about steriods? By the way he has been doing it for 2 years.
with prolonged use, steroid topicals can cause the delicate fat on your face to "fall" or move out of place.
Okay, so, for a bit more than a week, i've been taking the 5mg biotin, zinc gluconate (50mg elemental zinc), and 50mg P 5' P (active form of vitamin B6). It has helped already. the redness and the flakiness around my nose has diminished about 60 to 70 percent. it hasn't completely resolved the SD issue on my scalp, but it has helped. I'm not flaking as much.
Next time, i'm gonna purchase these vitamins from Pure Encapsulations. I found that they have the least amount of fillers than all the other supplement companies out there.
Ehh, firstly. Support me here: [Edited link out]
It's about a Seb Derm forum, I personally think we need one.
Alright so I've just had my thoughts clarified by the dermatologist after I kept getting this scaly red type "rash" for the last few months, going and coming frequently. I haven't found anything to bring this under control.
My Dermatologist told me to get Nizoral, for the first few days my skin seemed to be getting a helluva lot better, so good that I was only left with a slight pinkness from where the skin used to be bad. But it only lasted a little over a week, then it decided to come back. Initially I thought it could be from playing some big rounds of basketball last week two days straight (intense sweating and all that jazz), and I heard that intense physical activity and cause an outbreak. Which sucks, because I'm trying to get back into playing basketball. But I've also been trying to control my pimples, using differin and an ACV toner. This seemed to be drying my skin hardcore too. I'm aware of the benefits of ACV but is it good only internally? Or can I used it externally for a toner to help with Seb Derm?
Right now I'm torn between the two things, either I think could be a cause. Anyone got an idea of what it could be?
Tonight I've cut off differin, ACV and just kept to using Nizoral as it's what I used initially to treat the Seb Derm. The only thing I use is Cetaphil's dry sensitive gental skin cleanser, which is really soft on my skin.
I've also bought some Benzac AC (a benzoyl peroxide based Acne Gel) I've been reading that this is also beneficial to seb derm? Should I try using it? If so, how do I apply it?
I'm also interested in knowing how you all apply Nizoral cream? Do you put it on like a mask? Or do you completely rub it in? I find that my scaly flakes begin to get deattatched and therefore my face gets red.
Anyway, that's enough for now. I'll keep posting in this thread. Seb Derms a bitch. Acne and Seb Derm is a bitch. It sucks.

How do you mix the ACV? Mums got some for her arthritis and I told her to make me one whilst shes at it. She mixes it with honey and 2 table spoons of ACV. Because it's diluted, will it have less effect?
I make mine with 2 tablespoons ACV in about 1 ounce of juice. Chug it down (hopefully without touching teeth) and then chase it down with a glass of juice or water. I say "hopefully without touching teeth" because they say that ACV can ruin the enamel of the teeth.
Ah okay so I'm guessing that the honey and water wont play much of a part. I've started to reuse my Zinc tablets along with the ACV. I'm going to still continue applying my Nizoral and hopefully I see some good results, hopefully.
Thanks.
I heard it's best to take the ACV in the morning too, just giving you the heads up.
Good for you. I need to order more shea butter soon. I use it for body, face and hair but it lasts a long time since you don't need to use a lot.
The ACV also helps skin. It's a detoxifier. I felt better overall. No more fibromyalgia or arthritis pain. No more daily headaches.
I have/had SD on the sides of my nose, cheeks, under eyes, in nose, in ears, behind ears, eyebrows, scalp. I still have it in my ears (can't put the sulfur soap in there) even though I sometimes use hydrocortisone 2.5% for that. I think I might try using a sulfur lotion like Acnomel and see if that helps.

I really hope the soap will arrive... cause I did order and payed but they aren't anwering any mails of mine.. Last week I ordered. But I live overseas so it will take a while.
In the ear I do try castor oil now..
I only felt that I got more energy when I did mix the AVC with a special kind of lettuce and a little sugar. My grandma did make it for me.. within 30 min I felt great several times.
I can confrim that the acv will help with the skin problems but if am right you don't need it anymore for your facial skin except scalp and ears. isn't it???
I have some pain in my fingers too sometimes.. the best thing is one I take ACV is that I get more in a deeper sleep with better dreaming. If the sulphur with moisturising helps the same as for me than I am hoping to find a way to get rid of my brain fog which I often have.

I've pretty much gotten the SD and acne under control except in my ears. Tonight I put this sulfur cream (Pomade de azufre) in my ears so I'll see how that works. It's 10% sulfur so it should be o.k.
Hopefully you will get your soap soon. I've never heard of putting castor oil in your ear.
I know all about brain fog. LOL I like to joke to myself that it's because I'm getting older but I don't know. Hopefully now that I've started with the ACV again, it will help.
What about accutane? Has anyone had luck with this? Does it come back after the bacteria or whatever gets used to the low amount of oil?
I don't have an experience with it myself but I heard from 5/6 guys who used it for SD that the SD backed off like after 2 days of using Accutane 10mg and then after the treatment it came back after more than a year and less severe
Hi Joellie,
There's no 100% cure for acne or SD (or at least not that I know of). At around that TOTM I might get one cystic acne but that's it. I've been fighting acne for over 30 years and SD for over 20 years (I'm 43) and I'm quite satisfied to get only the one cystic acne a month (sometimes I get nothing) and the SD is the best it has been in the 20 years I've had it. Nothing works for everyone, I can only tell you what has worked for me.

Ceci Hi,
sorry I meant 100% control cure of sd on the face (also the most tiny tiny flakes /ultra thin skin layers) as long as you keep using this sulpur soap with moisturizer...
I saw that after a long time that sd is damaging the skin. That's the thing which is driving me for all those years crazy.
I not really have acne.. sometimes once in a time a pimple.. depends on what I eat.. Like if I take a lot of ACV with honey than I develop big pimples. Normally no acne.. I got now a pimple in my neck.. At this time I am 30. and have sd now for 9 years.
i'm new to this forum, so i apologize upfront for the background info -
i first started noticing rosacea in the summer of 2005, and was prescribed doxy, metrogel. it wasn't long ago that i would take doxy during lunch and just apply metrogel on my cheeks at night and eventually a little bit of loprox lotion in the area under my eyes... and later i seemed to be able to control flakes on my scalp with selsun blue, etc. i was primarily concerned with keeping rosacea at bay, which seemed to be working. in 2008 i found that i should start using rosula sulphur liquid soap as if i were washing a goatee, so the area on my chin and between my nose and mouth. and, in feb 2009 after trying desonide, etc, i discovered that i need to apply loprox lotion to my forehead, which seems to work.
i seriously would be fine with the above, but i now have out of control seb derm; can't seem to keep my scalp under control - flakes, redness at times near the hairline that can extend to more visible areas on the sides of my head (i wash my hair with coal tar shampoo every morning, which is probably drying the skin on my scalp, but other shampoos seem to really exacerbate and irritate, and i feel i need to shampoo every day.) i am now struggling with frequent now and again redness and flaky skin on and around my nose, top of nose and lower forehead between eyebrows, on the temples, the sides of my forehead. i have found that desonide can work on the top of my nose, but i don't like to use it and would like to know what works to prevent redness on my nose, rather than react. elidel can work on the temples, the sides of head, etc. but red, dry spots can come right back. if one area clears, then another area gets irritated, inflamed.
i've tried different moisturizers from cetaphil, linda sy, vanicream, aubrey organics blue green algae. moisturizers never really worked for me, probably made it worse, and now don't even work on the sides of my face or neck anymore. i even hesitate to wash my face, neck as it just results in more dryness or even flakes, redness in my sideburn area. washing the T area of my face is almost unthinkable as it will become irritated. needless to say, i have very sensitive skin. i hesitate to wash my face, b/c i could inflame certain patches below my cheeks, etc.
i started using elidel earlier this year in spot areas on my temples, b/c i couldn't seem to find a solution. i apply it, but don't wash; just apply it like a moisturizer and hope the irritated area goes away in 2-3 days. earlier this summer i didn't seem to need elidel, but now i am compelled to use it in these areas. a dermatologist said i should just use elidel all over my face 2 x day and take minocycline. i hesitate to do this, however, i would be interested in your feedback. by the by, take vitamins/supplements and started to avoid carbs, sugars, even natural sugars in fruits, so this has already driven me to the edge. i seek guidance on a better solution that will be more effective at preventing rather than reacting to seb derm.
cheers and enjoy a relaxing weekend...
just wanted to let everyone know i had a food and environmental allergy test done adn came up negative for everything. i though that maybe moving from sf to nyc might have caused my sd, but as far as i can tell it is coincidence that it started to appear after i moved here. i even use water filters on all my faucets.
i have also tried 50+ vitamins/herbal medicines for months each and as far as i can tell they haven't done much. zinc, selenium and probiotics may have helped a tiny bit. so unlike a tiny few that found that supplementing a vitamin, bringing their body back in balance helped their sd symptoms, it barely did anything for me.
where to go from here, i have no clue. i remember me 5 years ago happy to have my acne under decent control for the first time in my life and starting to regain my confidence and now i think about the last 2 years of suffering from sd and how i have alienated my friends and search for a pseudo cure every free moment i have hoping to overcome this problem we face so i can feel good about myself again. such a depressing and underestimated thing sd is.
