Has anyone tried a blood test for food allergies/intolerances? I've cut out wheat, dairy, anything spicy, yeast, peanuts, fruit and just about all sugars from my diet as well as trying just about everything on my skin that has been suggested on this thread yet the symptoms persist.

I am almost certain that I have an intolerance to wheat and dairy products as I cut those out of my diet a few years ago and my digestive/fatigue/immune system issues have really cleared up since then and I have had some improvement in my SD/acne since then also. So does anyone think its possible that some other food intolerance is the major source of my SD problem?

I am contemplating getting a food intolerance test done here in Australia which tests for 271 foods, spices, preservatives etc but costs $850. Before I spend the cash to get this done can anyone share their thoughts on the connection between SD and food allergies/intolerance?

Much appreciated.

I haven't had the test done yet but I am still thinking about it. I forgot to mention it is called the imupro test - info here: After doing a google search the method has its critics but there are also testimonies of those who say it has worked wonders. Has anyone had this test done?

I have tried dozens of different treatments. The absolute best that I've used, which I've been using for like 10 years, is Eucerin Intensive Repair Lotion. It cured the cracks and patches, but I still have oily skin. I highly recommend it. You can pick it up in CVS. Let me know how it goes =) It has been a life saver 4 me.

Do you think this would help with the inflammation as well?

can someone tell me specific problems they've had with using steroid creams on the face?

it really works for me in a small dose 1x/week to alleviate symptoms when they get really bad. then right around that same time the following week i have to reapply to keep everything in check.

i know regular steroid use would clear up the problem but i'm trying to keep my immune system active while i try other things to find a lasting, manageable solution.

thanks

Well ive had sd for like 11 years and i used to use steroid on my face like everyday other day for 2 or more years and that caused me steroid induced rosacea, i think i had cushing sysdrome because my face was all round and inflammed, thinning of the skin, my skin became adicted to the stuff so i had to use it more often as time went by, even seconds under the sun would make me turn bright red. I think the more you use steroid the more your skin will get dependend on it so buttom line its the worse thing, i would rather use nizoral cream than steroids.

Right now im using natural treatments, im starting with vinegar again i tried it a long time ago but i was full of steroids so maybe it didnt work because of that, right now i havent use steroids for years. The shampoo on the face works but then starts irritating it, i just apply the foam but ill try diluting it in water like has been said here.

also i saw a documentary about sd a long time ago where a doctor said when it comes to sd "less is actually more", so if you start abusing something that works for you eventually the sd will become resintant so try to let your skin breathe for a day or two, dont apply stuff on irritated skin.

I've had a quite bad redness on my nose and cheek area for over a year now. It gets worse when I'm in the sun or exercising, it's also constantly inflamed and has an orange peel effect to it which makes it quite a horrible thing. I just went to the doctors today and he thinks it's SD so prescribed me Hydrocortisone Cream 0.5%, so... this is the first night I've used it so I'll keep you all updated with the results.

Hello All,

I know what everyone is going through, I spent well over a decade fighting with not just Acne and seborrheic dermatitis, but Excema, warts, and abscess since my very early teens. I have been prescribed everything From Cortisol, Steroids, Retinols, Zincs, Antibiotics.

Accutane was the only thing that worked, but left me with nosebleeds, dry eyes, scaling skin, and constant liver tests, only to have Acne and everything come roaring back when I got off of it, but I still kept all the side effects of Accutane as well.

No Doctor ever helped me at all. Every doctor says that diet does not matter and there is no cure, I would just have to "wait it out" and take their prescriptions for the symptoms. Thanks Doc, y'all have been saying that since adolescence.

Now in my late 20s, and scarred, itchy, shivering, and anxious like a diseased dog scratching at it's afflictions, I decided to take a different approach.

Internal: 1 tbsp Olive Oil, Wormwood and black walnut hull tinctures, Oregano Oil, Psyllium Husks(fiber), Apple Cider Vinegar, lemon juice, pro-biotic pills, and water.

External: Tea Tree Oil

That's it, the OO, Wormwood, black walnut, Oregano oil, and Husk Fiber in the morning, and Apple Cider Vinegar 3 times a day. Squeeze one lemon and drink it once a day. Then Tea tree oil applied directly in the morning and after I showered at night. Take Pro-biotics before bed at night, and drink at least 1 gallon of water a day to flush everything out.

After one month, my SD was almost all cleared up and no longer itched, Warts were literally drying up and falling off, and my skin felt smooth all over like an Oiled Gladiator, instead of bumpy like an acne-scarred individual.

This was 3 years ago my friends. When I feel that my skin is beginning to become afflicted, I just buy and Use Colonix for 1 or 2 months every year, but it is expensive, and you can find the above ingredients much cheaper.

Now my afflictions only return when I am not taking good care of my health and diet.

I see many posts on the board saying that SD is not curable, and that there is no "Proof" that diet and internal conditions cause SD and Acne.

I will argue that there is no "Proof" that these irritative steroids and creams prescribed by these "Doctors" work at all. Ask any of these people who have gone decades with, at best, temporary relief from a cream they will have to apply for their entire lives.

The skin is a reflection of our internal makings. Our Liver, Kidneys, Intestines, and Blood. If our internal organs are not cleansing our blood of our wastes and parasites, then they will show in our skin. Seborrheic Dermatitis is an internal condition, it merely shows up on the surface. If you continue to suffer from this affliction after so many years, try and look inward. Cleanse yourself internally. Only then will you truly find the root of the cause.

I only wish that I would have found these truths so many years ago. If only these doctors could have steered me in the right direction.

Hi Bandito,

Very interesting! Please give us the weblink of your probiotics.!

What product did you exactly use from colonix ? [Edited link out]

So you don't use tea tree any more on your face daily>?

How often does your SD on a average level come back in one year...

Thanks!

I have had SD for about 3 years straight now. I got officially diagnosed with it about half a year ago and I have SD inside my ears (mainly in both of my ear canals). I have lost my insurance since then and I cannot afford going back to a dermatologist to get more meds. Does anyone know any over the counter creams/shampoos/soaps that I could SAFELY use inside my ear canals to relieve the itching or anything? It's driving me NUTS & I cannot live a normal life bc it seems like at random times of the day my SD will flair up and itch SO bad that I cannot ignore it nor concentrate on anything I am doing. I will itch it constantly to where I even cause severe ear ache pains/sores inside my ear. The skin also becomes raw easily bc I scratch at it. If I had to scale the itchiness from 1 to 10, I would say 10. It is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY hard for me to ignore the severe itchiness of my ear canals. It is so bad that I feel like it is beginning to ruin me living a normal itch-free life.

So, any suggestions from experience?

Please don't suggest tea-tree oil, I have used this and it BURNS your inner ear. I also was told by a doctor to NEVER put tea-tree oil in your ears.

Thanks to anyone who helps!

Hi, I would suggest Grape fruit seed extract known as GSE. Use it 1 a day or once in 2 days.. one drop mix with water and mix it on you finger..

Pure aloe vera from plant directly is an other alternative.. Just cut open the leaf with a knife and wipe off the gel on your finger and apply straingt to your skin.. just wash only with water cause this will function also as a soap..

God liver capules.. once in three days one capsule.. other than that will make it worse. this seems to temp it down. add some probiotics.. look on wikipedia for seborrheic dermatitis down it says which you need to take..

or you can apply raw honey look for auburn on the roscea forum.. google it.

this all will help great till you left with really minor scaling you can't barely see or you can't see.. no itch at all..

Or pray to God and ask Jesus to heal you.. some people got healed it sounds weird but it does excist but takes time I suppose.

take care

just curious, but do any of you sd sufferers also get dilated pores in an areas where you have SD?

ALSO have any of you SD sufferers tried jojoba oil? I heard its bad for sd sufferers as it contains, Jojoba oil contains about 10% of oleic acid. But would jojoba oil be okay to use on areas where you do not have SD?

Yes unfortunenatley you get dilated pores.. better not using Oleic acid cause SD can spread..

Maybe mineral oil is better cause doens't contain oleic acid IME. For the pores you can do sometimes a chemical peal TCA .. but be careful with this and only with a professional..

If I have something outstanding what works outstanding I'll let you know..

ceci- i already have some sulfur soap on hand, will give it a shot.

halfpipe- thanks for the suggestion very much, but i'm legitimately allergic to bp.

this SUCKS, yo. i can't leave my house and i've been on and off crying all day. and of course i've been taking my anger out on my family and friends and throwing tantrums left and right. i hate this :(

Hi, I'm new to this, so perhaps you already have your solution, but my doctor prescribed a topical called "Elidel" for my SD. I have it around the nose and around the corners of my eyes.

It's worked really well and some days I don't even use it at all. My brother, who is a doc, said that sometimes, with regular use, you can wean yourself down to just using the cream once weekly or monthly. I'm not at that point yet (and I've been using it once daily for 3 weeks), but I'm hoping that will soon be the case.

I have noticed that, since using Dan's regimen, my SD is a lot less severe and perhaps there is some merit to the BP helping the SD. Who knew? A 2-in-1 bonus for me!

Good luck. And google Elidel if you want.

Hi,

I don't know what I have, but my inner cheeks near the nose have started to get really red and flaky. I was prescribed steroids on two occasions and they made it 10x worse every time. The redness was ridiculous. Like I had a flashlight under my skin.

Do steroids like elocon and fucicort usually make SD worse?

ah shit, i have been using jojoba oil on my face for like 3 months... If the sd did spread, can i reverse it?

Also one more question. What if i use a moisturizer that contains a little bit of jojoba seed oil? Do you think this can cause my SD to spread? (Versus using the jojoba oil straight from the jojoba oil bottle itself?).

And if i tilt my head sideways, i notice that its shiny. So i immediatley discontinue the product.

So now my last offense is to treat it internally, im thinking of repairing my gut flora www.allergyescape.com/leaky-gut-syndrome

Then after that just continue the supplements, i might add some Biotin, Borage Oil and B2/b6 , For my face im thinking reparing my skin barrier and use some mild product.

I dont have much problem on redness, My SD is weird, I dont have redness but parts of my T-zone feels like dry and it flakes sometimes. (The redness on the pic shows only after i wash my face with that product)

UPDATE: Pics Taken Today / I just washed my face with lukewarm water . My whole face feels like dry right now, and some flaking on my forehead, no redness though.

WE NEED A SEPARATE THREAD FROM ROSACEA BECAUSE SD IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT SYMPTOM.

ALL IN FAVOR?

As my dermo has told me, you need to put something on it EVERYDAY to keep it at bay. I used the steriod cream twice a day for 2 weeks to control. Then used the anti fungal cream hes givin me and only used that twice a day for about 1 month , now im down to once a day for about 2 weeks now cuz its been under control. I plan on taking a break for a week or 2 though. Ask your derm for anti fungal cream .. i use Ciclopirox .. Also have nizoral anti fungal cream but have never had to use. Saving it incase the one i have doesnt work anymore. That way i can mix it up. BTW antifungal dont thin the skin or anything so dont worry about ever using it.

Dont worry , dont stress it out cuz thats a big reason why it can get worse. You just need to find the right rhythem for yourself and find out what works and what doesnt. It takes some time, but your time will come. Also if u have dandruff from it , use some anti dandruff shampoo , worked really well for me and deff helped the facial SD

Well the rays stop the yeast or something along those lines. I for one know that im going to tan as i always do this coming summer. Way i look at it , if your flared up at the time .. What looks worse, red on a pale skin , or red on a dark skin
