hey guys,
i was just on accutane for the 4th time and completed it at summer's end. i'm a 23 year old male with a family history of males having fantastic acne. anyways, my face is clear again, as accutane has helped me accomplish in the past, but just like the 3rd time i was on it, i'm getting hives on my face that pop up during the day, are really red and itchy (like a mosquitoe bite), but disappear after about a day or two. i've been taking an antihistamine and using hydrocortizone cream to reduce the symptoms. i told my dermatologist, and he said it's not because of accutane and got crazy defensive when i kept saying it was. yes, he's a dick. i'm certain it is a result b/c i never had this problem until finishing accutane. has anyone experienced this? did you get some sort of treatment? sometimes the hives are worse than acne...it takes your confidence away, but it also stops me from living my life happily cuz i'm either a) itchy or b) sleepy from the antihistamine or c) paranoid of when another hive will pop up and if i'll be in a social situation.
thanks for your help guys,
good luck to all.
andrew
I think this might have happened to me. I am 2 months (maybee more) post tane. I woke up with an itchy leg one day, and I looked to find 4-5 little itchy bumps on my leg. They looked and felt like bug bites. And it happened again yesterday on the top of my foot.
But I really do think they might just be bites fron something that got me in my sleep, and not hives.
I hope this stops, especially if it's on your face, first acne, now this........... Good Luck with all this stuff.
Hives from a causative agent will stop once the causative agent is withdrawn, although it can take many weeks for the hives to burn out.
If it's been more than six weeks since you stopped taking accutane, then it would indeed be highly unlikely that the 'tane is causing your hives.
Many things causes hives, both internal and external. Some people even get hives for no discernable reason. Obviously you know next to nothing about the etiology of hives - perhaps you should do some research......
This is definitely due to the accutane and the same annoying thing is happening to me. Im three months off the drug and this started almost the moment I finished. For me its when I eat: chewing the food seems to cause the hives. But I have noticed that acidic foods are the worst for it. I also recently learned I cant touch baking soda or the hives appear. And theyre always around the mouth for some reason. I know this post was awhile ago. If you see my reply, please let me know if you got help for this problem, or if it went away? Thank you, Sara
