Hi, I'm 14 and I've had really bad stubborn acne ever since I was about 11. It keeps getting worse and worse and nothing I do can stop it.
I've tried heaps of pimple products (that don't work), I squeeze my pimples every day for about an hour, I use ant-bacterial soap everyday, I spend all my time on the computer looking up treatments for acne, I cover my pimples everday with make-up that's supposed to work but nothing does!
I hate it, everybody seems to think I'm stupid and I don't know I have pimples. It's constant "Hey, you need to use some pimple remover" and "I really recommend..." and people are always staring at them.
And someone I consider a friend embarassed me greatly the other day by saying loudly "Natalie's entering puberty because she has pimples." Just because I'm the only one in my group with them. Most people don't enter puberty when they're 11.
My mum says she can hardly notice them, and my brother says I spend too much time on them and my dad said everyone has a "few gumpies". Try having a mountain range for a face.
I just don't understand how people can have clear skin. My greatest wish in the whole world is to be able to run my hand over my face and not feel pimples or blackheads or anything.
Please, if you have tried any acne product that removes it at least a little PLEASE say so.
You know what I hate? When pimple products say "It HELPS fight acne." It's because they know it won't work so they just say it HELPS fight it.
I always feel really left out wherever I go, pimples are ruining my life and I bet they're ruining yours too.
Totally fucking depressed,
Natalie. :[
OK so, I have a question.
I went to the doctor today and was prescribed Tetracycline, 500 mg twice a day. I was wondering, is it okay to take probiotics while on this? Other supplements i'm currently taking include MSM, b-complex, taurine, zinc citrate and an essential fatty acids supplement.
Also.. will the fact that I'm taking a high dosage make the initial breakout worse? or is it irrelevant/random mostly.
(By the way, my acne is moderate--mostly cysts and nodules, and at least partially hormonal I suspect. I have never taken any prescriptions for acne, topical or otherwise. So I really, really hope this works... and that it will help with my horribly, monthly hormonal cystic breakout on my chin.)
Hey guys,
Im 17, i started getting acne when i was 16, im nearly 18 now, tried a lot of lotions, tablets, these include : Differn(cream), zineryt(lotion, i found it very strong and nippy when applyed, i didnt see any difference when using this), doxycycline(tablets, used them for 3 months, it had taken away redness and some of acne), and now i am on lymecycline.
have you tried lymecycline before? any experiences? any advice?
After using these anti biotics, i feel that the breakouts gave been reducing, for example, not as often, every 2-3 weeks i would say i get a bad 1.
Not seen my skin clear in ages Wish these things will clear it up, who knows!
I'm sure your acne will eventually go, i feel these products are no use, by the time you have finished them all, your acne will be gone.
Anyways, would be great if we can talk>>
i have msn if you wish to add me? ollie-[Removed]
Good luck with products !

Does anyone know if Minocycline weakens the contraceptive pill?
Yes, it does. Pretty much all antibiotics absorb the hormones in your birth control pill, thus making pregnancy much more likely.
The best thing you can do in terms of pregnancy protection is to stop taking Minocycline (with your doctor's permission). Also, use a form of barrier protection such as a condom or cervical cap.
But if you do become pregnant, your baby should be fine. Neither the antibiotic nor the pill should have an effect on your unborn child.
so starting dian 35 again gave me an IB, I saw a different derm yesterday and she felt a more aggresive treatment is necessary.. so now I've added 250 mg tetracycline into the tretinoin/BCP routine, and she added benzamycin topical in the morning.
my skin was looking good from just the tretinion but the BCP IB took that away, now i feel like my routine is getting pretty huge...
anyway, i told her how id done my research on antibiotic resistance and side effects and she mentioned how mino has the scariest side effects with lupus possibilities so since i was resistant to the idea of going on antibiotics she suggested the tetra since it doesnt have that side effect, and it is stronger/works faster/has better results.
I'm a bit worried though being put on the strongest version, as apparently its worse for side effects... but it doesnt have any crazy ones like lupus right?
i think it will combat the BCP breakout but i guess some ppl get a breakout from antibiotics too so maybe it will just double it and make my skin look crazy for a bit? anyway she said we can try this and ill see her again in 3 weeks and I will be weaned off them when the time is right if i decide to stick with them, not just pulled off like my last crappy derm did.
hey rainydays,
Hows things?
i have had moderate acne from when i was 16, and now i am soon 18. It started off bad, and now it is a lot better than it used to be. I went on lotions and creams, these include differin, zineryt, tea tree. Nothing worked, i then went on doxycycline for 2 months, it started to take away the redness and i was still breaking out badly.
However, on the other hand, after doxy, i went onto lymecycline, for the first 3 months, nothing really changed, and then, a month into them and what a difference i saw, redness going slowly, but quickly, acne reducing, i was so pleased, i was happy. I have finished the first 2 months supply now, and it has reduced so much!!!!! I know that people say about the side effects, that it may come back worse, it is different for different people dude!
I have got another 2 months, just think, if thats what it has done in the frist two months, then what a difference it will be in another 2 months!!!!!!!!!!
I hope i helped you in some way, stay strong, it will soon go buddy! Through all the rain and the pain, you have got to keep your sense of humour, you must be able to smile through all this Bullsh*t, remember that
Hey did you guys have outbreaks the first week/weeks with antibiotic cycline? (Tetra/doxy/mino..etc) i take 300 mg Tetralysal Tetracykline right now and my face is just horrible! since a week ago i begun to take these pills. =(
Hey kris, hows things?
I was first put on doxy-cycline, i found in the first few weeks, nothing really happend, and then i saw a slowly graduall change. It did work slowly, but i was talking to someone who has been taking them for 2 years because they take so long to work in order to get good results.
Then i tried lymecycline, took them for a good 5 months, yes, you do get breakouts and your skin will go back, dont let that put you off, its a sign that they are going to start working!!!!
After a month, i started to see a big difference, and then after a wee while, i didnt really notice them doing anything else. I have spoken to a few people on this website, and they say that it comes back twice as bad, which i dont agree with, because i have not been on them for a month or two, and my skin is fine.
I think that by the time we try all the different solutions, it may take a long time to find the right one, since theres hundreds of products out there, by the time you find the right one, your acne will just be at the stage when it will clear by itself. So i am just leaving it, i am only washing my face a few times a day, and thats it. I haven't had a breakout in 2 weeks now, which is a suprise!
I hope this helped in some way, we will all get through it some time, remember, time is the key!!
Dont let it stop you from doing things, dont let people stop you either, i've had it for 2 and a half years now. You come out a better guy at the end of it, so you should be thanking it!!!!
We are all the same, we dont function without a heart, we all have problems, take that into cosideration.
"You think you can do anything, until something you cant stop hits you and then you know your not indestructible."
Hope it helped!!!!!!!

hi guys,
i have a few questions. i took doxy briefly in 2003, but i didnt take it for long. i dont recall 100%, but i do remember it being helpful. in 2007, i took doxy again inconsistently for about a month, so i dont really remember the results. i stopped because my face was fine. anyways, ive started it again and it's been one week.
do you think its possible that i am now immune to doxy? i understand that results take some time (perhaps 4-6 weeks before any noticeable changes), but is it normal, during the first week, if new pimples start forming? im not talking about major breakouts, just a few pimples here and there.
thanks, guys.

Yes that is normal.
This may help some people, but this happens anytime I am prescribed an antibiotic. After a week, sometimes only three days of taking it, I get these white painfull sores in my mouth. they look repulsive and can hurt pretty bad, especially when eating certain foods. Finally I found at I have to take a probiotic while taking the antibiotic to balance some kind of bacteria thats in your mouth.. but my dentist and doctor both told me it was a "yeast infection of the mouth". I had never heard of it.. but I really reccomend taking an over the counter probiotic, and if you begin to get signs of what I described, then ask your doctor for a prescription probiotic. When I got my wisdom teeth out I was taking that along with my antibiotic and had no issues at all. This was after suffering from this "yeast infection of the mouth" For multiple months while I was on doxycycline for my acne.
wait, I have a question.
From how the FAQ is, it seems as if Minocycline is the 1st step, where Tetrocycline is the last.
My doctor perscribed me Tetrocycline and when that didn't work, he perscribed me Minocycline. Is that right?
Also, my doctor never said anything about waiting 30 minutes before going to bed and he said I could eat before during or after taking the pill. I didn't have to wait like I did with Tetrocycline.
Should I be concerned that my doctor's advice is so different?!?
Anyways... it worked though hahahaha
thank you!
i have a question though - i have a fever and have gotten it around yesterday afternnoon
i raed thaat a fever is one of the serious side effects
why do i have a fever?
could it be because i was out in the cold shoveling yesterday morning? (i was thickly dressed though)
or could it be that i might be pregnant?
my period is a day late - it was due yesterday
and i was somewhat sexually active once about 2 days after my ovulation ended - the 17th
with a condom though
and my bf said that he pulled out (still with the condom on) before he ejaculated
is the tetracycline affecting the delay of my period?
and can i take advil for my fever? this fever is making me feel weak and slightly dizzy
sorry for so many questions!
please help!
i am worried and scared!
thank you!!

It could be because you stopped taking them and did not finish the course. That's what happen to me with Oxytetracycline. I did not finish the course and went back to take them and ended up feeling really ill for a couple of weeks then ended up in hospital!
Hello everyone,
here is my background & questions
Okay, let me just say, I went on accutane last year and it cleared my face for a year. Recently my acne came back in a form of 'perioral dermatitis' around my chin- mouth area. It is bumpy down that part of my face with a lot of small bumps, but it's not like the average pimple that comes up every now and then. I'm thinking it could have been caused by accutane but I don't know, I've never had this 'dermatitis.' My derm prescribed tetra, and I took it for 2 months, and within 5-6 days, I was completely clear, and when I took one, 500mg, pill a day, it stayed clear. (The derm said I could take 1-2 pills a day, but I wanted to stay with just one cause the waiting to eat thing was annoying.) When I finished the last pill, I didn't know how long the clearness would last. About 3-4 days after my last pill, the dermatitis/bumps came BACK! So my derm said i might need a longer dose, but I asked for mino, since I wanted to be able to eat with the pill. Then I heard that people have died from mino, so I asked for doxy. I took my first pill this morning, and I'm wondering, how long until you see improvement? I am going to be taking one, 100 mg, pill every day. Will I see improvement in a few days just like I did with the tetra? What is the main difference between doxy and tetra? How long did you guys stay on it before you got resistant to it? And did it clear you up for the long run?
Any advice would help.
Thanks!
hey i need some serious help
i had bad acne and got used to steaming my face twice a day and i didnt hav and dryness problems then i started on tetralysal and stopped steaming and wen i finished i have flaking skin on ym face. i was wondering if it was the streaming or antibiotics that has caused it or maybe both
thankyou carl
IM realy sceared now! a dude told me i might have an actual disease when he saw my photos in my threat here on the forums! im taking tetracycline 250mg 4 times a day and you mentioned ;
- An accumulation of tetracyclines in the body may cause ones skin to develop a purplish tint. They look like bruises, and can take up to a year to fade away. Routine doctor visits and Vitamin C 500mg twice daily can reduce this risk.
IVE ONLY BEEN ON TETRACYCLINE A WEEK AND IVE TO BLACK MARKS/BRUISES AFTER TO ZITZ IVE HAD, IM REALY SCEARED! WHAT SHOULD I DO?

thats the link to my thread on my acne please take a look!
i recently started mino after being on doxy for about a year. doxy worked prety well, but made me really nauseaous and when paired with asprin, caused excessive nausea + vomititng. not fun. mino so far has had no side affects (other than slight dizyness for a few seconds about 30 mins after taking it, which is way better than nausea) and no reactions with asprin.
i am concerned about the induced lupus though, because my grandmother had regualr lupus. is it more likely that i may get induced lupus because of this? the mino seems to be helping almost better than the doxy, but its still early. and i dont want serious side effects to show up later. how long is it safe to be on this medication?
You clear me some things, and I am really grateful for it... yet I have only one question
I am 15 years old, and I was prescribed to eat one pill of doxycyline 100mg a day for a month. After the month, he now told me to take one pill every two days, and consequently after the breakouts stops. Right, now I don't think it's working at all, but the amount of acne I have nowadays is much less than before.
P.S: I have a delicate stomach, plus inherited atopy
Im on minocycline once day, I just read on FAQ it's rarely related to developemenr of lupus. Should someone with lupus NOT take minocycline?
Background - I have reynauds phenomenon and positive ANA. Along with a laundry list of non-serious symptoms. I was not diagnosed with lupus(good) but told it was highly suspected and should treat myself as someone with a dx. This happend years ago and haven't had incidnce since(knock on wood)
