Hello,
I began taking accutane in February.Ive been taking 2 20mg capsules daily (40mg). I have been taking this medication from one of the best dermatologists in Mexico. I havent really seen any decent results even though Im almost gonna hit 6 months. I have been hitting the gym pretty hard and the derm said that it might be because of that. Is it true? I really dont want to quit going to the gym because I really enjoy seeing the progress but I really want to be clear. He said I could stay on the medication for up to 9 months since its a low dosage. I really dont know what to do. What is your opinion?

Can you describe your acne symptoms. If no response to accutane, you might have fungal acne not ordinary acne. Treatments for ordiary acne do not work for fungal acne. Dermatologists don't know about fungal acne.
Fungal acne is caused by taking antibiotics and some other meds, including steroids. Fungal acne can be treated safely and cheaply with antifungal creams.
If you get back to me with answers to the following questions, I can provide more information.
Have you taken antibiotics or steroids? If you have taken antibiotics, which ones ?
Do you have a white tongue or dandruff or flaking skin or a red rash or itchy skin along with the acne ?
I look forward to hearing back from you
I would just be aware that40 mg for 9 months is a long course. I experienced very bad side effects starting at 6 months on 40 mg. You can always take a break and start a new course, or you can take a break and start a course at a lower dose. Accutane is actually quite effective even at very small doses. Of course your doctor (or hopefully doctors, so you can get multiple opinions) will be the ultimate guide.
