I started Accutane about a month and a bit ago and initially took 20 ml every second day for 2 weeks then took it every day after that. My skin didn't seem to get worse or purge during that period but now after this month its looking really bad. I hear people purging as soon as they start the medication but this definitely isn't the case for me its seemed to get worse as the month has went on.
Is this normal?
I think purging is a myth. Are you taking antibiotics along with the accutane ? There is some (indirect) evidence that accutane can cause fungal acne. Antibiotics definitely cause fungal acne.
What people think is purging is most likely outbreaks of fungal acne, caused by taking antibiotics and possibly by taking accutane.
Do you have a white tongue ? A red rash ? Dandruff ? Flaking skin? - along with the acne symptoms. Get back to me if you wish and I can provide more information.
