BEFORE accutane, I already had a quite bad dandruff problem. Almost my entire life. Oily hair, dry scalp. I've learned to live with it, though. I use T-Gel extra strength a couple times a week, after releasing all current dead skin, and I'm great at resisting head scratching. When I was younger my mom would do mineral oil treatments on my scalp which would help for a couple weeks, but my hair would obviously be extremely oily.
I've only been on accutane for 1 week, and my scalp has gotten so much worse (even though my hair still gets oily). This morning I did a T-gel extra strength treatment and left it on for ten minutes (usually I do 5 min). Before accutane, I would see no dandruff at all after the first wash, and it would reappear after a few days. However, immediately after my hair dried this morning, my dandruff is way worse and flakier than before!!!!!!!!
MY QUESTIONS ARE:
1. Does anyone know any dandruff treatments that work VERY WELL without making my hair extremely oily?
2. Should I go to my dermatologist? Is there a prescription shampoo for this? Has anyone used one of these before?????
When I was younger I used a prescription dandruff shampoo and it was tar-based, pretty much worked the same as T-Gel. I just would like to know if theres any way to help my major dandruff issue.
Thanks!
Yes. I noticed that from accutane. Very itchy hair with dandruff, even hair loss. In my case it is like initial reaction happening after 1 week and after 2 more weeks it resolves and my hair becomes nice: dry, not itchy and without dandruff. If it worsens a lot and doesnt resolve after 2 more weeks go to dermatologist.
Accutane can cause outbreaks of malasezzia. Malasezzia causes dandruff. Use an antifungal shampoo, preferably Nizoral. If that does not solve the itchy problem, buy some anti-fungal cream with terbenafine (lamisil) in it and rub the cream through your hair. Malasezia can cause skin problems also, so watch out for those.
