Hi everyone

It's 1:04AM and my hand is shaking while typing this. I started Spiro about 6 months ago and have experienced AMAZING skin. It took about 3 months to kick in - but it worked. My problem area was my chin, and for my age (34) my derm said Spiro 100mg will nip it in the bud. Well, it apparently nipped my hair buds too. My hair has been falling out an alarming rate. Before this hair shedding I had insanely thick beautiful hair, to the point my hair dresser charged me $15 extra for each cut. I'm literally in tears typing this because from what I gather (reading on previous posts), my hair won't grow back even after I stop spiro? I wish I read up on the side effects of Spiro before starting. I'd rather have hair than acne.

I went to see my derm last week about this, and she said the same thing that every derm said (in other posts), Spiro doesn't cause hair loss. It's just me losing my hair. Hair loss does not run in my family at ALL. She suggested to increase my Spiro to 200mg to help with the hair loss but I don't think I'm going to do that. I'm officially stopping Spiro tonight. I should have been a better advocate for my own health.

What I want to ask is has anyone experienced this, and what is your current situation (hair never grew back, still on spiro ? Please anyone advice or support...

Sorry to hear that. I'm been on Spiro for 4 months now at a low dose of 50 mg and have not experienced any excessive hair shedding. I believe that your derm is right, Spiro should not cause hair loss, but actually the opposite effect. It is prescribed to women with hair loss due to an overproduction of male hormones. I think you need to see a doctor, a general one and then possibly get a referral to a specialist who specializes in female hair loss, to find out what's causing it because it can be caused by a variety of factors: infections, illnesses, undiagnosed thyroid disorder, stress, diet, medications, etc.
