Accutane dosage/breakouts?

Hi y'all, I'm about to start my 3rd month on Accutane at 80mgs and I'm wondering if I'm going to go through another bad breakout.
My acne was so bad the whole lower half of my face is completely tinted redish/pink with scars from all the cysts I had. The type of Acne that I have is Acne Conglobata/ Acne Fulminans.

First month on Accutane I was at 40mg daily and the first IB was BAD. Like 6-7 dime to quarter sized cysts all over my cheeks, in-between my eyes, and on my chin and they just kept on coming but after cortisone injections they seemed to have calmed down.

Second month on Accutane at 60mgs daily, I got another bad breakout but nothing comparable to how horrible it was the first month. Still got the occasional 3-4 cysts (in-between my eyes seems to be my lucky problem area) but hey, much better than the 7+ cysts I had previously gotten. And they went away much quicker with and without the cortisone shots.
And I cannot tell y'all how happy I am to just be seeing normal tiny zits again! If you've suffered with severe nodulocystic acne, you know what I'm talking about!

My derm told me this month should go by a lot smoother than the last two months because she hadn't even expected my face to start healing this quickly given the type of acne that I have. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this and can give me a little insight on what to be looking out for.
Anxiously waiting on y'all's replies!!

Hi Kgirl,

I took a course of accutane a while back. Started 20mg, then upped to 40mg then finally 60mg.

I had an inital breakout at 20mg, and then a smaller breakout at 40mg. I dont recall having a breakout too major when upped to 60mg. The good news is youre likely past the inital tough stage of the first couple of months. Months 3 and 4 was when i saw positive results. My course went for around 5 months.

If you breakout again just let it happen as everyone can react differently. What id recommend is be conscious of other side effects as the higher the dosage the more side effects might become present. Just pay attention to your body and be sure to have an open line of communication with your Derm if you notice anything that seems strange.

All the best

Alex
