Does anyone know if the length of time you're on Isotretinoin has any impact on the long term success rate?

For example, if I was on it for 4 months and clear would being on it for an extra 2 months make any difference in the long run?

Having had 2 kids take a course of Accutane, the main factor seems to be the cumulative dose.

Having said that - when my oldest was nearing the end of her course, the derm said she would prescribe an extra month or two if she was not completely clear for 30? days after finishing the prescribed cumulative dose. She was, so she didn't do extra.

My youngest now has 2 months to go - but at month 4 is completely clear. I am not sure what the derm will say next visit - I would love the course to finish early as we are heading into summer, but I doubt it - the derm has seemed pretty clear that there is a cumulative dose she is aiming for.

Thanks for the reply. I'm only at month 1 stage but clearing up really well. Main side effect is constant redness of the skin which looks like sun burn. This bothers me quite a lot so ideally don't want to be on roaccutane for ages

Accutane is based on the cumulative dosage. Everyone will be different depending on your weight and the milligram you're taking. The minimum dosage for accutane is 120mg and the maximum is 150mg. To calculate your dosage you will need to figure out your weight in kilograms (pounds divided by 2.2) and then multiply that times 120mg to get your minimum dosage and by 150mg to get your maximum dosage.

(your weight in kg) * 120 = minimum doage

(your weight in kg) * 150 = maximum dosage
