Hi everyone, I have been on 50 mgs of Spiro for about 16 months now. It has been a miracle but in the past week I have broken out more than I have since I started Spiro last year. I can tell it is hormonal because the breakouts are around my jaw and mouth and cheeks. I don't want to up my dosage of spiro yet but I am curious if any spiro users would take a little extra for days or weeks their skin was less than subpar? I am thinking about taking an extra 25mg just until my skin clears up but I don't want it end up making my skin worse so any past experience or opinions would be appreciated!

The body is weird. I swear every person is affected differently. I was on spiro a few years ago at 100mg a day and had zero side effects and amazing results. Long story, but moved out of state and new insurance company so took awhile to get back on spiro again as my acne came back after not being on it. I am on 50mg and have been on it for about 6 months. I tried going up 25mg and I felt like a zombie and could sleep all day. The weird thing was the acne on my face continued to clear, but my back got severely bad. It hadn't been that badly broken out since my early 20's and Im 38 now. I have no idea if it was literally to upping the dose or something else in my routine, but a few weeks after going back to 50 mg I feel much better and my bacne has disappeared, but Im still breaking out on my jaw line face which sucks. So thats my experience. Very strange a few years ago I had no problems at 100mg and now I can't go above 50mg without bad side effects, but I don't think that is the case for everyone. My derm was hoping I could get 100 mg again. I think I am probably the minority in this case whee having a negative side effect from upping the dosage. Good luck !

50 mgs of spiro is actually a really low dosage. Spiro is a diuretic and a anti-androgen that blocks the testosterone inhibitors. Upping your dosage you should be perfectly fine, as I know some people who take 300 mg of spiro and are perfectly fine. Spiro is a weak anti-androgen overall, but a strong diuretic :/ stay hydrated if you up your dosage.

I went to 75mg at one stage and had great results with it.. I also found that using spiro in conjunction with retin-a .25% gave fab results - The retin-a keeps the pores clear and stops the skin cells sticking together, it also smooths out old scarring etc so might be worth looking into. It does take a few months to see results from retin-a. Unfortunately I had to stop spiro altogether as I experienced constant hair shedding on it:(
