A month into my isotretinoin treatment I started to develope a depression in my left cheek and over the course of 4 months is has gotten progressively worse. My dermatologist has said there is no link between this and my accutane treatment and has suggested it is localised lipoatrophy which is very rare. He said it could be a symptom of lupus and has sent me for blood work , however, after some research I have found there could be a link between accutane and drug induced lupus. Has anyone ever developed drug induced lupus whilst on accutane or has anyone got a similar indentation that is continuing to get worse? I have attached pictures of my indentation on my left cheek and one of my right cheek for comparison.
@CurvedPoachedplease let me know what happened with you. Im taking accutane now and I have semicircular indentations on my thighs. Do you still have your indentation or did it go away? And did you complete your accutane treatment?
The same happened to me from Accutane 3 years ago on my left cheek in a semicircular shape (but less prominent than yours).
I used Accutane for a long time (very low dose, 10mg/day, without side-effects, except dry lips), and it affects me strangely since 3 years ago. Even very low dose (10mg every other day) it causes skin atrophy. The exact cause is a combination of Accutane andvery cold weather.
Accutane being the main cause, because repeatedly when I was taking even low dose Accutane the cheeks start having permanent cracking and atrophy. It is 100% caused by Accutane proven by repeated tests I did. For some reason it is not noted as its side-effect.
The effect does not occur when the weather is very hot and wind is avoided, that is during summer.
One other symptom is pain at the location of atrophy when Accutane is taken (that is when the atrophy, cracking is forming).
