Hi,

I've got moderate acne with a few pustules but mainly red papules. I;ve been using BP 5% for the past couple weeks, twice a day and salicylic acid twice a day. I don't seem to sting at all with BP? I get some flakiness around the cheeks but that seems to be it.

Would it be okay for me to use this long term? I don't want to suddenly get seborrheic dermatitis....

Hi,
Benzoylperioxide (BP) is one of the most used over the counter acne treatments. It's used by many people all over te world. It's completely normal that you get some flakiness or redness when your starting to use BP. This should fade away within a couple of weeks. Also keep in mind that you can only see the real effect of BP within 2 or 3 months. You started with BP twice a day and salicylic acid twice a day. This is a pretty rough start. You should always start with a small amount and also maybe start with once a day and the build up to twice a day.

But now I should just go one using it. The flakiness or redness is completely normal with using BP. I also had to symptoms when I started using it. You should see some improvements on your acne pretty soon! And if the flakiness keeps getting worse your maybe allergic to the BP or salicylic acid. But I should just try it and move on!
