I've had acne since I was 10. I am 17 about to be 18 now. I am so tired of having acne it has made me so sad because nothing seems to work. After trying over the counter medicine, Benzoyl peroxide , Retin-a micro, cetaphil, etc I finally went to a dermatologist December 2016. I was eager to be prescribed accutane but she said I had to start off with antibiotics, wait six months and if they don't work maybe MAYBE she'll prescribe me accutane. The thing is my skin has never been worse, I have never felt so insecure about my skin like i am now. I broke out with bunch of little pimples all over my face, and I'm extremely red, my face is super oily and then dry at the same time. There's not a day that I don't wear makeup because I hate myself without it. I can't even hang out with guys or talk to people because I'm so insecure about my acne. Prom is coming up and I'm going to a 4-year college and I just want them to be gone so that nobody can judge me in college. So please, how can I convince my dermatologist to prescribe me accutane )):

Not sure where you are based ('prom'....from America?)

Anyway if you are in the UK, you have to have tried antibiotics first.

If antibiotics dont work, and you're insistent you want it, it's causing scarring, its affecting you mentally etc...any one of these are valid reasons for your to go on (ro)accutane.

My acne would be considered mild/moderate, but I'd had enough and sited all of the above as reasons as to why I wanted to back on accutane. The GP didnt even examine me, and the dermatologist (after blood tests), put me on roaccutane.

Dermatologists seem to be abit of assholes when it comes to prescribing accutane what i did was right a huge list of everything ive tried including proactive cleansers bp antibiotics etc u get the point and he still put me on antibiotics but said if it didnt clear it up to come back and he would put me on accutane anyway i didnt take the erythromycin as i already had before so when i came back id had a bad breakout since as i just kind of figured if i let it get to its worse come back and claimed the antibiotics didnt work he would give it to me and he did on 40 mg a day for 7 months the thing is accutane is meant as a last resort treatment and as such they want to be sure u have extinguised all other methods first

Does a derm have to give it out, or can a GP write a prescription? Not sure how it goes where you live, but I got mine prescribed by the GP. I went to my family doctor, and she tried to do the antibiotic route, which I was not pleased about, so I phoned the clinic the next day and got an appointment with a different doctor and he pretty much went, "Oh God, yes, I'm putting you on accutane." So maybe if it's possible, try to see another doctor? Some hand it out more willingly.
Another thing you can do (and this one is sneaky) but say that you had a bad reaction to the antibiotic. I was prescribed minocycline many moons ago, and after only one day taking it I felt like crying all the time. Apparently some people react to it negatively, and when I told the doc, they basically said to stop it. You could also pretend you had stomach issues with it or something.

I recently had an appointment and tried to convince her but she didn't budge. She says it had a lot of side affects but I'm willing to deal with them to get rid of acne. Then she tried to prescribe birth control and then said I wasn't putting on the prescription she gave me when I was. I want to switch but she's the only derm. My insurance covers /: ( I live in the US)

What kind of acne you have? Post a pic maybe so we can see. If you have cystic acne (like me) it's no problem at all to get a prescription of accutane. Maybe try changing dermatologist

This is probably of no help to you at all, but your physician is not legally allowed to coerce you into taking birth control as a form of acne prevention/treatment by failing to provide alternative, non-birth-control treatments that will work. I would request a new doctor and cite the reason as feeling that she is trying to strongarm you into taking birth control pills. If you are unable to see a doctor for whatever reason (especially in the aforementioned situation), I believethat your insurance is obligated to provide you with an alternative provider.
