Oral and topical medications aren't working anymore!

So I've had acne since high school and I am 22 now.
My dermatologist put me on amoxicilin (antibiotic) and it cleared my acne immediately.  I went on the antibiotic a few years ago. I also had a lot of prescribed topical treatments as well.
My dermatologist told me it's not good to be on antibiotics for a long time and encouraged me to try to stop taking the meds (as my skin was clear) and see if I didn't get acne anymore.
Well that failed and ever since it's come back full force. I typically got it on my forehead and chin. Now its cystic on my chin and jawline and near my neck.
I don't know what to do anymore! The antibiotics aren't working and my skin was clear a few weeks ago and now its horrible again. :(
What else can I do? I really don't want to do accutane because I hear the side effects are horrible and I work full time. I can't take time off because of medication and side effects.
I rarely wear makeup as well. My skin care routine is religious and the same all the time because its what works for me.
I'm so sad. I have a formal event coming up and I was so excited to have clear skin.

TCM! Traditional Chinese Medicine. It can do wonders for your skin. My skin was clear while taking it

And also since acne is in most cases an inside problem, trygetting theblood work done! Itcan clear up some things for you. Also have you tried changing your diet?

Sorry to hear this. The doctor is right however. You said you were on antibiotics a for years?!? Is that correct? Holy moly! Are you taking any probiotics? You need them. Go to the health food store and get some good ones.Look up C. Difficile. You DON'T want it. I know-I had it.
As a result, I can't take antibiotics or some other meds without risking death.
Is it possible that your products aren't working for you?

Wow :(
My derm never mentioned any of this to me and my primary care physician said there was nothing wrong with it either. I can't believe it¦..
I've tried other acne medications that were in pill form (forgot their names) and my acne just came back. This medication is the only thing that has gotten under control to some degree.
I have no idea what to do now. Accutane scares me and I really don't want to go on it.

I'll have to look into that! Thanks!
And I have changed my diet to some degree. I've lost 50 lbs and obviously I am eating much healthier than I used to.

Yeah. My doctors never mentioned it to me either--until I had it. It took me a year and a half to beat it. Then I had my tonsils removed. Done with that! Now I know that you should try to reserve the antibiotics for severe illnesses and surgeries only...

You are wise to be afraid. I refuse to go on Accutane...I've learned my lesson with playing Russian Roulette!

Congratulations! Losing 50# is a major achievement!

I have really done my homework with my products and honestly...I think I've exhausted my options there. I really don't think that's my issue anymore. I've researched the ingredients thoroughly and have hardly ANYTHING that ever touches my face that is actually comedogenic.

I have a thread going about my regime...anyway, I was finally perfectly clear and feeling excellent and then out of (seemingly) nowhere--BAM!!! I thought it had to be my diet, but then someone mentioned 'estrogen dominance'.
I've been looking back at my calendar logs of my acne and monthly cycles...I think I may have suddenly broken out over ovulation. I think it's hormonal and I may have developed late on-set PCOS...I'm over 40 now, so that would fit.

Good luck with everything...acne-bumps in the road or not (haha), you are obviously starting to live a much healthier lifestyle and take good care of yourself and THAT is the MOST important thing. It should trump everything. Eventually the acne will get taken care of too.
