Fellow acne.org members... I need some advice. I am a female college freshman that has struggled with acne since 5th grade. I have acne on my chin/upper lip and forehead. I am currently on a birth control that is for hormonal acne and is apparently the 'strongest one out there' as my derm says so that's all fine and good, I get the occasional zit on my chin around my time of the month but what's not so good is the constant acne on my forehead. I'm using a topical treatment that is working well too. It's nothing horrible, not cystic acne but just persistent and it's just like I have under the skin junk that never comes out so my forehead just looks bumpy all the time, it never comes to a head unless I pick at it. My two older sisters both had acne, both worse than mine but they are now 24 and 26 and still have acne, not to mention my mother still get's cysts.
I have blackheads on my nose but they don't bother me because they've always been there and it's not noticeable. I very rarely get zits on my cheeks/chest/back. During middle school I tried every topical and oral bacterial acne treatment before going on birth control which helped my chin but not my forehead. So I have 3 options now, I can either go on another antibiotic called sprionolactone which is a stronger hormonal acne treatment (so I don't think this will help my forehead), I can try Accutane or I can stay with the way things are.
Basically I just want anyone's advice because I've heard so many mixed reviews about Accutane and I don't want to try it if it isn't going to work. I wash my face twice everyday, I do not wear makeup (like seriously nothing at all, maybe I'll put stuff on once every few weeks if I go out but that's it and it's on for a total of 6 hours plus the makeup I use is not a factor I know that because it's very expensive and meant for acne prone skin and I use clean brushes etc.)
Any advice will be considered very thoughtfully by me!
It should, but accutane it's rather also reserved for severe cystic acne, not mild or moderate. It can have really nasty side effects. So you know, why not try something without side effect or mild side effects? I remember I bought few years ago some device that emited blue light, and it helped with my "normal" acne. And even before that I had series of microdermabrasion. Both were really good, and helped mi deal with blackheads and normal whiteheads, but cysts... that another thing.
