So today I went to doc to check up on my skin. I refused to take tetralysal pills the first time (today is the second visit), and to no surprise he asked me to take it again.
I questioned him as all Ive got are some clogged pores, closed comdones and 2 tiny white heads. and they are all non-inflammatory, except the 2 whiteheads are a lil red. They are mainly on my forehead and on the cheek next to my nose.
The tetralysal he prescribed is 300mg, manufactured by Galderma. I have heard lots of sideeffects from users on this forum and I really doubt that I should take it.
What are your ideas?? Really need help here
My acne are mostly like these on my forehead for your reference
Don't take oral antibiotics for acne that is so mild... use bp or topical antibiotic(I would suggest rather bp) and also some topical retinoid. It can worsen your acne for a short while(but you have mild version of acne so maybe it won't worsen it), but it should clear you after some time. Also if this is only on your forehead maybe change shampoo? This looks only like a clogged pores, not like inflamed acne(not even a little) without red areas of skin etc. There are also cosmetic procedures you can look into(microdermabrasion ) that should be very effective in your case. But like I said - bp or topical antibiotic + topical retinoid. That should be enough.
They are not only on my forehead, they are spread throughout the Tzone, quite many I should say. But they are mostly non inflammatory.
I am using Differin cream that he prescribed. However I dont understand why he insists on taking antibiotics. He gave me 2 weeks of Tetralysal, one per day. So I should not consider taking them?
All my acne.
Only 1-2 are red. But there are really many clogged pores.
Oral antibiotics will do pretty much NOTHING to clogged pores. It will deal only with those whiteheads(maybe), and in your case this is really small problem. I strongly advise using bp and topical retinoid. Their job is to clean your pores, oral antibiotics will do nothing with that. It could prevent initial breakout but maybe you will not get this initial breakout, and in your case it should be very mild anyway.
Consider this
- oral antibiotics will help only with inflammed acne
- they will kill beneficial bacteria in your body, causing in long run other helth problems AND worse acne
- you will spend cash on something that will not really help you
Also oral antibiotics would just stop working after some time, but bp(benzoil peroxide) and topical retinoids you can use all the time. Save oral antibiotics for time you will really needs them(dangerous infections or if you will have some really important event in weeks to use everthing possible to get clear for a time). Not to mention that like I said before microdermabrasion should be really good in your case, I would rather consult with good cosmetic than dermatologist in your case
As far as I know differin is topical retinoid? Buy benzoil peroxide also, it's without prescription(there are topical retinoids that don't need prescription also) and it's really cheap. Topical retinoid will clean your pores but can cause breakout. Benzoil peroxide will deal with breakout, so they work best when used together(I mean not the same time, for example I use bp one evening and then another topical retinoid, but I am changing my routine when it's needed). Give it at least few weeks to work. Also inspect cosmetic products you are using because when I look again on your pictures it seems that something maybe is irritating your skin
