Going on Doxycycline a Second Time

Hi everyone!

So I was on doxycycline for 3 whole years up until about 4-5 months ago. I was completely clear the entire time I was on doxy. I started out on Doryx, then maybe about 2 years into that, my derm switched me to Acticlate and the transition was seamless. However, my derm thought it was about time for me to quit antibiotics and had me stop them cold turkey (which I know is bad to do but I didn't have a choice as she would not refill my doxy).

Well 4 months later, my acne is worse than it's ever been, even though its bot that bad. No cysts, the very ocassional nodule, but mostly inflammatory, about 5-10 pimples at a time. I've been on Spiro ever since I've come off of doxy but it hasn't done a single thing for me. My new derm is putting me on another course of doxycycline hyclate for a couple months to get my acne under control after which I plan on doing Accutane.

SO finally to my question, will doxycycline help me this time around as well, or is it more likely that I've developed a resistance to it in the time I haven't been taking it?

Thanks!
~U.S.

edit: I guess a more appropriate question is if anyone has had experiences going on the same antibiotic a secondtime and how that went. It's hard to know how it will affect me until I actually start it but I was just wondering what the trend was.

Ask yourself if you took doxycycline for 3 years then if this is the answer for you acne? Maybe if you acne is lesser than before it's better to try some other aproaches, even if they wasn't succesfull before? In my teenage years BP wasn't doing much for me, but after courses of antibiotics that almost eliminate my cysts and cleared my back(but my face was still a mess just without huge cysts) BP started to doing wonders. You can always return to antibiotics or accutane, but like I said you should try other things that are not so dangerous to your health. And use that time to rebuild your microflora

If it worked for you till the very last pill you took, it will work again till you become resistant to it. However, I would stay please stay away from antibiotics. I took doxy 3 years ago and while i was clear for 8months, i became resitant and my acne came back much worse. Same with minocycline.
