I started doxy recently. the doctor prescribed me only 50 mg a day. i'm nervous about starting antibiotics because i don't want to mess up my body. i take probiotics as well.
if you could answer these questions that would be very helpful!
1. how much did you take?
2. how long did you take it?
3. what was your overall experience of doxycycline ?
thank you!

Hi, what perfect timing.
Yes I took doxy 100mg, was supposed to take it for two months but only did 3 days, it made me extremely nauseous, no appetite. I wasn't working at the time but I would have missed work. I switched to minocycline and took that for two weeks but got a yeast infection. I haven't been feeling good and now I'm freaking out over potential long term side effects. My advice is, don't. Its a quick temporary fix. What's really working is the Spiro and BC pill I take. Yeah bnirth control had potential side effects but antibiotics can mess up your whole gut flora/ candidiasis etc.
Mind you, I'm really worked up because I read if some potentially serious side effects from minocycline and I'm worried I might have it.
Sorry to be a downer but hey, honesty is best.

I took 100mg of doxycycline for about three years. I thought it was fine, I don't really know how much it improved my acne because I was on topicals at the same time, but I don't think it hurt. My skin has never really responded to antibiotics to begin with anyway.

Did it give you nausea?
Me being a drama queen, I convinced myself last night that I had some rare fatal side effect of minocycline...but I'm still here so maybe its just a cold 😉
Some scary side effects!
Oh and if you're female, you have to look out for yeast infections.

Accutane sometimes works temporarily too. Plus its super risky.
I think she should focus on diet+ inflammation being female she can try to get her hormones in check.

Its true - i've taken accutane twice, its ruined my immune system and i still have acne. i've also been working on diet and hormones for a while. but unfortunately spiro didn't help me - in fact over time it made things a lot worse.

Ugh sorry to hear that. Do you know what is your hormonal issue? Low estrogen, PCOS etc?
I didn't do well on antibiotics and I won't do accutane cause I don't want to risk more problems. May a diet/ naturalist approach would be worth a shot? I found this site in one of the threads, it has lots of articles about acne and natural treatments. At first I was suspicious because he also sells a book but he puts up a lot of info for free.

not sure -  i know spiro made my estrogen levels either to high or just funky. I'm actually currently taking saw palmetto - which has the same effects but is natural and it seems to help. I take a triphasic bc thats supposed to beneficial for acne. I know all about diet, I'm currently underweight though and I'm trying not to restrict my diet too much. i was told i don't have pcos because I'm too thin and not excessively hairy but I've never had any tests done.  I've seen a naturopath and they told me i should work on rebuilding my health post accutane and get my adrenals tested so i plan to do that. I'm trying out a lot of new stuff right now so  hopefully something will work. i do plan to continue to take the antibiotics for now just because I'm desperate :/

I understand. I have PCOS but I was underweight for years. One gyno said to me, quote, " I doubt you have PCOS because you don't look like a bearded circus fat lady"...real professional.
I also went through a phase where I developed an eating disorder cause I was scared to eat any triggers. I think you're better off adding good thi GS to your diet rather than limiting stuff( except obvious stuff like junky food, sugar and trans fats).
If you take the doxy, make sure you eat a real meal with it,  I didn't eat much with mine so that could be part of my problem. I hope something works for you.

Thanks, avoiding triggers, trying products can turn very obsessive and become consuming. I'm trying not to let it all get the best of me (its hard!)  I appreciate your advice though :)

I went on doxy once its gross plus its a bandage solution :( I have pcos and the pill didnt work for me either. I wanna try spiro if tret doesnt work. I take metformin and that helps but not completely clear (helps with oilyness).
