My 19-year-old daughter was on spironolactone for about two months this past winter. Almost instantly after starting it, she began waking up at night to pee. Unfortunately, the spiro seemed to be exacerbating her anxiety, and after a bad panic attack she and her endocrinologist agreed she would go off it. It's been a month now, and she says she's still waking up at night to pee. She's also had diarrhea on and off these past few months. Will this nighttime peeing ever go away? Could her hormones be temporarily or permanently out of whack? She's worried. Thanks!

I often wake up to pee at night so have been researching it a bit. Is her bladder full to the brim when she's going? Is she doing the potty dance in her dreams? I've literally had dreams where I have to pee. If not, then likely she is not waking up because she has to use the restroom and it's possible that she is just waking up due to insomnia (and using the opportunity to relieve her bladder). BTW insomnia and bowel issues are common side effects of anxiety. Definitely follow up with your doctor but it is possible it is unrelated to the spiro. There is a [removed] article about Nocturia (peeing at night) that is easy to google that you might find informative.
