Long term usage of Doxycycline?

Hey guys!! So it has been more than five months since I was first prescribed Doxycyline by my dermatologist. With the antibiotics, the birth control and all the holistic lifestyle, my acne is more under control now. I still have usually around 3-4 pimples at once on my cheeks but it's nothing serious compared to the giant inflamed cystic acne I had back then. I have stopped seeing my dermatologist since it is quite expensive and I could find the Doxycyline at a much cheaper price at a pharmacy. If I were still seeing him, maybe he would not recommend me to keep taking Doxycycline anymore.

The problem is that I am really scared to go off Doxycycline. I am on my third pack of birth control so my hormones are still experiencing some ups and downs, and so my skin is not completely stable yet.

I have researched the side effects of going on antibiotics long term and I do feel like ever since taking it my immune system has weakened more or less, and I have been getting oral infection. But has anyone here tried going on Doxycycline for like more than six months? I would love to hear some personal experiences or advice from you! Thank you!!

I was on Oxytetracycline, Minocyline and then Lymecycline one after the other with no breaks for just under 2 years in total. No side effects at all while using, and no issues coming off them. Antibiotics are really safe, and 5 months is not a particularly long time. If you want to stay on the doxy for a few more months until your BC has things under control then I'd say go for it. If you have any concerns about side effects then you should be able to ask to talk to the pharmacist when you collect your prescription.
Good luck!

Ive been on and off doxy for years and havent had any issues. Just have your blood tested if you are worried about it.
