Hi.
I've been struggling with mild to moderate acne for about 3 years now. I also suffer from cystic acne covering almost all over my face :(I don't know what to do with the stupid thing appearing on my face doh. My derm told me that I need to take accutane, but as I'm afraid of the many side effects of this drug, she said it will be cured by other types of antibiotics. I'm just tired of having acne and taking different drugs which clear my face just for a while, and then the damn acne comes back again :(. On the other hand, my face is getting somehow better without simply doing anything...Just confused. Should I go on accutane? I think I should. But whatabout the side effects? I feel that my heart doesn't perform well lately as it beats really fast, and I do excersice...while I've heard that accutane causes heart problem and bone injuries...What to do??Help me make the best decision guys :((Thanks.

You have to do what you feel comfortable doing. However, given that cystic acne is covering almost your entire face...personally that sounds severe to me!...your derm is recommending Accutane because they feel it is in your best interests, and that the benefits would outweigh any risks at this point. Obviously there are risks...but the risks don't affect everyone, and in fact are the exception and not the rule. Most people clear up beautifully with few side effects. Antiibiotics only work if you keep up the topicals during and after the course until acne naturally subsides...stopping treatment after clearing up means acne could return. But with Accutane, more often than not, it's one and done...no more drugs.

I didn't feel comfortable giving my son antibiotics. But the derm thought it was in his best interests so we went through with it. He's clear today! (still treating his skin with BP but at least we're treating clear skin instead of a face full of acne) So you have to decide for yourself if a few months of pills and some possible side effects are worth the opportunity for clear skin...and maybe for keeps this time.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :) We're here to support you either way.

Thanks a lot. I don't know whether I have mild or sever acne anymore. I'm going crazy lol. Yes, there are cystic acne almost all over my face but they are verrry little...Maybe that's why I claimed that I have mild to miderate but not severe acne...
Thanks anyway. I appreciate that :-*

i understand what you mean about small cystic acne coz i have it as well! i am currently coming into my 1st month in accutane and boy it is such a ride! it is your decision in the end but you can always consult your doctor even during taking it to see if it is working without the side effects. you can get blood tests done first to see if you are okay and you can test your trust in your doctor first by asking a lot of other questions like maybe tell him or her your concern and if maybe there is another route or maybe what you can do to keep healthy while taking the drug
