Well hello, this is my first post. I've had to acne to some degree since I was 12, I'm 32 now. That's 20 years too many!
Ill tell you about me... I have very oily skin, dont get a lot of pimples at once but i never DONT have at least one or two. Presently I have 4 big cysts, two are bright red and two you can't see but can feel under the skin. Ive been diagnosed with PCOS but dont have blood sugar issues or actual polycystic ovaries. My androgen levels are not specifically high i seem to be sensitive to androgens. The gist of it is, I know I have hormonal imbalances and have been on and off birth control for the past 12 years. Some worked better than others. I also have severe allergies if it matters since allergies and acne may be related...? I think for me excess oil+ inflammation is the root cause of my acne with hormones exacerbating both.
So. I specifically want to hear peoples opinions on Yaz and Yasmine, abd spiro. I was on generic Yax but the drug companies keep changing the generics, ocella, gianvi etc and its driving me nuts! I stopped taking ocella 6 months ago becuse...well idk really. I thought id been on it too long and I really liked my serum but its not enough just using a topical. My face has small pumples and a few deep cysts. The kind that you cant see at first, but they are painful and then get inflamed and red. I cannot deal with this crap...im pretty much ressigned that I need meds.
In your opinion ladies, Yaz, Yasmin, spiro, whats better and can you take spiro in addition to one of these at a low dose?
I know i need a doctor but my appointment isnt for two months and Id like as much info as possible. Please help! I sympathise with anyone who has been dealing with this issue, it sucks moose balls.
Thanks, snarkygirl
Hey there! Well it looks like we are very similar in all parts. Pcos but only symptomatic w/ hormones. Im allergic to 50+ things but i developed acne only a few years back, and i had allergies before that.
After trying antibiotics, topicals, etc I was put on Yasmin, then Spiro 4 months later. The birth control gave me more cysts, and I used it for about 8 months, more than enough time for it to kick in. The spiro started to work at 100 mgs but gave me side effects that werent worth it (exhaustion, feeling sick all the time, and extremely depressed with anxiety i couldnt control)
Ive been off it since and my acne is back to on pimple every few days. Its annoying but eh, at least I tried the hormone route. It works for a lot of people, just wanted to add my 2 cents
