Im a 19 year old female. I am 52 days into accutane and have been taking the brand claravis at 40mg per day for the entire course. I weigh 135 lb. The past month I noticed a bit of extra hair loss but nothing serious, now im noticing more major hair loss (5-15 strands come out every time i touch my hair). I have really thin hair to begin with so this is kind of distressing. I called my doctor today and she said that based on the amount of stress the hair loss is causing me I should stop taking accutane. I am stopping taking it but wondering when my hair will stop falling out excessively? Has anyone else experienced this and when did your hair regrow????
PLEASE HELP
thanks
Is your hair very dry at the moment. Sometimes it can cause T.E. which can take up to 6-12 months to recover. Some people have cycles of shedding that never goes away. I am glad you stopped Accutane. Also Accutane can disrupt hormones and other vitamins like iron, b12, vit d, etc.
Stress will make it worse. Also do a search on the board and you will find some advice regarding dry hair, thinning etc. Good Luck
I finished Accutane in December. I haveverythick hair, so the hair loss never concerned me, but it was concerning to see so much hair in the sink, on the counter and my clothes after combing and drying my hair. My hair was pretty long, and I thought cutting it would decrease the pull on my hair with brushing and styling, and maybe I'd lose less. I cut my hair to a long bob every once in a while anyway, so when the hair was still falling out last week, I went for a cut. I haven't noticed any hair falling out since the cut. I'm seeing a drastic difference.
ppl thought that accutane hairloss was a unusual effect but its been proven wrong by the number of people complaining of hair losseveryday. we can see alot of cases like yours, i lost hair on accutane too.
accutane mechanism itself is prone to cause hairloss because its a chemotherapy drug. It can cause TE/ Chronic TE
i do remember when i was taking 60mg the hair loss was so ridiculous that i was losing more than 300 hairs on the shower,
I was shedding hard on accutane but no one could notice my hair loss, just me, by the time i was letting my hair grow longer, so the sheddingwas very noticiable because of that. I think maybe if my hair was short i wouldnt noticed it, because my hair itself was thin for me but to other people was normal
I think the most people that notice hair loss on accutane are those who use long hair (mostly women) acute TE itself normally is not very noticiable, thats why i think alot of men that maybe suffered from accutane hair lossdoesnt even notice the hair loss due to the course, and of course the majority doesnt suffer from hair loss
Normally your hair will be fine if the accutane is the reason, probably the TE will last til you end your course, maybe it can get better if you low the dosage, but if you cant stand losing your hair i recommend you stop the medication now, because TE normally only goes away when the "trigger" is removed.
Other thing,
beside TE the dryness caused by accutane can cause your hair to a huge breakage specially if you have long hair
u need to keep your scalp moist because it will dry HARD, i think maybe the dryness can cause dermatitis on scalp that can lead to a hair loss too
my scalp was very very very dry and itchy by the time

did your hair loss stop after accutane? if so how long did it take to stop falling out that excessively?
Yes thank god
the shedding seems to be normalizing now, i was shedding 200-300 hairs per day, i was afraid to take shower because the amount of hair that came out, now i cant see the clumps of hair comming out anymore, im shedding like 50-90 hairs when i take shower and it seems to be lowering each day
My scalp isnt itching anymore too, i think this is the main signal. my scalp was itching, burning, with some folliculitis in it. Now its normal, im noticing alot of small hairs growing everywhere, a bald spot that i noticed is now filled. my hair is still dry and i think it will only go back to 100% normal when the oil start to come back again
i noticed improvement 1 month and a half after i lowered the dose from 60mg to 20mg
then 1 month later i stopped i it was progressively getting better
the articles that i readsay that the accutane induced hairloss can take up 3 to 6 months to get better
im not there yet but im glad to see that things are getting better and better, i hope it continue that way, hang in there if it was accutane induced will get better
my hairloss looked like almost identical as post partum women hair loss
get a colon cleanse!!!! The same thing happened to me and it was because the accutane was still stuck in my colon and disrupting everything. Also, take Himalaya liver cleanse vitamins, they are the best to clear out the rest of the accutane still stuck in your liver. Lastly, it is very common to become anemic because of an accutane trial and this can lead to further hair thinning, so try to take some supplements with iron. These steps completely stopped my hair loss and my hair slowly but surely came back to the thickness it was before accutane. Also take some biotin, this will help the hair growth. TRUST ME, do these things and your hair will go back
