What to do when the Magic of Minocycline runs out?

Hello,

I took Minocycline for over 3 years starting in late 2012 after battling acne since I was 13. It worked tremendously well. However since December 2015 its effectiveness has declined. I decided to visit my Dermatologist and we discussed options. He said I could go on Accutane but I told him I would first like to consider other options. He prescribed Teva-Doxycycline and I have been taking it for 2 weeks. It did improve things a little but not by much. I recall when I first took Minocycline my acne was totally gone in 4 days. I am concerned that my Magic Minocycline days are over.

I would like to hear from others who experienced the Magic of Minocycline but then experienced it losing its effectiveness. What did you do subsequently? I am a 38 year old healthy male. I had no side effects on Minocycline.

Its very important for me to be Acne free. After taking Minocycline and being acne free my confidence significantly improved and I was able to start a successful business. With the return of my acne, my confidence in social and business settings will likely decline. With acne my focus wanders especially when I meet new people. I wonder if they are looking at my acne and find it unpleasant. I observed my thoughts recently and when I have acne I feel like I am not deserving of high success. I feel unattractive and not worthy. When I am acne free I feel like my possibilities and options are vast and I have the confidence to engage people and focus on them, rather than on my acne.

Thank you for sharing what worked for you after the Magic of Minocycline ran out.

I hear ya there! My son is scheduled to come off minocycline in about a month and am terrified. He had out-of-control cystic acne and his skin two months into his mino course is only now just starting to look really good. This coupled with tretinoin cream and the Acne.org Regimen are working beautifully to keep him clear.

One thing he is doing now in preparation for post-minocycline is taking Solgar Triple Strength Omega 3 (with 504 mgs of EPA omega 3) twice daily. Omega 3 has been described as all-natural Accutane, because it inhibits 2 anti-inflammatory chemicals that are responsible for acne. 1000 mgs of EPA omega 3 or more per day is therapeutic for calming acne inflammation. He's also taking 10 mgs of prescription-grade zinc (for other reasons) but zinc is also a great natural anti-inflammatory, and works synergistically to metabolize omega 3, thus maximizing the benefits. Anyone who takes omega 3 for acne should also take zinc as well.

Hoping these supplements, coupled with the topicals, will be enough to keep things manageable for him so we can avoid medication (but there if we need it). Here's an article if you're looking for alternatives to Accutane. Good Luck with whatever you decide! :)

I am thinking of trying this product potentially as a natural alternative.

https://www.clearpores.com/

It is recommended by John Gray (Author of Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus) in the below video. I trust John Gray so I am thinking of trying it.

I just looked at the reviews for Clear Pores on this forum. The reviews are pretty weak. (I forgot this forum had reviews on products. Should have looked there first before posting about Clear Pores.)

Tough break about being an adult male acne sufferer. It worsened my quality of life into my thirties so I understand your frustration. Antibiotics, whether it's minocycline or any other has its limitations. I personally had good results with minocycline and better results with bactrim. But my severe acne always returned when I stopped even though I kept up with topical treatments. Considering your age I think that a course of accutane would probably clear you up for good. If you continue with antibiotics, I strongly suggest that you include benzoyl peroxide and a topical retinoid.
I personally think that accutane is a miracle drug. It's uniquely effective against acne, relatively safe, and permanent most of the time. I think that it is underutilized for the wrong reasons (pregnancy and abortions.) Considering the urgency and importance of antibiotic resistance, I have a hard time justifying their use in acne. But it's your skin
Btw i did have side effectson bactrim.
Accutane cured me completely
Good luck with your choice
