I went to a dermatologist for my sudden breakout of mild acne on my jaws and blackhead + pimples on my cheeks and chin. The acne on my jaw has also been stubborn and persistent. She said that she was putting me on some antibiotics for a month but never mentioned that it wasisotretinoin. I only know it wasisotretinoin when I had to sign the consent paper. She also gave me some antibacterial medicine.
No bloodwork or any medical stuff was done. She didn't even ask what my weight was. She did mention the side effects and such.
Im a little scared and worried of taking it. Don't people usually take accutane for months and not just 1 month?
I won't be able to continue the treatment more than 1 month as I'll be going to another country for studies.
please give me some advice regarding this as I'm getting skeptical on starting it. Will it work on such a short time?
thanks in advance.
Don't worry! 10mg is a very low dose, and most people taking it for severe acne are taking much larger doses for about 3-6 months. I have mild-moderate and I am taking 30mg (which is also considered low) for my weight of 60kg and it's not bad thus far. That being said, isotretinoin is not an antibiotic, but your dermatologist may have felt that a low dose might help your skin calm down considering it does not sound typical for you. I can't tell you if it will work, because everyone's skin is different. If it helps you at all, accutane tends to be very effective and most of those of us using it on this site are using it as a last resort because antibiotics and topicals didn't work. I took different antibiotics for around 6 years but the underlying problem can really only be treated by accutane
