Can a 14-year-old girl start Accutane if she hasn't began menstruating yet?

She has moderate acne that scars very bad and is starting to travel down to her chin and on her jaw line.

Her face is covered in millions of skin colours bumps, along with many pimples and a few pustules and cysts.

Can she take it if she hasn't started her period? Will it mess it up in the future? Will she be able to have children in the future?

I've had a look around and it looks fine, but just want to check on here.

Clearly she doesn't have a chance of getting pregnant, which is a good thing i guess?...

Thanks in Advance!

Please tell me if you know another senario like this? or if you know anyone who is in the same boat?

Well, it looks like a typical case of hormonal acne. The best thing to do is to talk to a gynoabout this issue. Most girls enter puberty at around 12 years old, but some girls will only get their first period at 15 years old. Anyway, it would be nice to take a blood test to check if everything is OK with the hormones -- if not, the doctor will probably prescribe abirth control pill.

As for Accutane,I really think it should be taken after you tried all other alternatives, since it's a very strong drug. There are other effectivewaysto treatacne.

@katscYes completely understandable.

Treatments, anti-biotics, cleaners, toners, BHA & aha exfoliants, laser, moisturisersand even benzol peroxide (all strengths)

Nothing has worked, it's getting worse and worse and is truly awful. The only concern I have is if its ok to take Accutane if you haven't started the menstrual cycle.

I've never heard of Accutane affecting someone's puberty, but no one here is really qualified to give you a definitive answer.

Your best bet is the simplest option: ask your dermatologist.

If she does go on it, she must still take birth control pills...because how can you really be sure a 14yr old isn't going to end up having sex without her family/doctor's knowledge?! Girls can still get pregnant before their periods start.

Also she needs careful monitoring re depression.

If it's hormonal acne, topical treatments won't solve the problem -- even Accutane will be just a temporary fix. :/ The best thing to do is to know if it's a case of PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) or high androgen levels and, then, treat the cause with birth controls, weight loss, diet changes and so on. ;)

My 14 year old boy is going through the same thing! Our second time doing the Regimen but am considering other options.
