Hey everyone! I'm15 and I've had acne for like 3 years. I'm not sure what kind of acne it is, but my derm put me on isotretinoin 20 my since it's not as bad as before.
Everything was going great until day 20, when my face started peeling. I knew this was a side effect and I didn't pay much attention. But it kept on peeling and I think the first layer of my skin is gone now. My face looks a little red but it's shining bright. It looks like a burn to me. Same kind of burn that tretinoine cream caused months ago.
I'm not using anything on my face. Nothing at all. I'm just using a cleanser soap 2 or 3 times a day.
What is going on? And what should I do?
Don't even use soap. Just apply a thick layer of healing ointment. Once peeling stops, then you can use moisturiser and slowly wash your face maybe with something basic like cetaphil or just plain water. Using a soap 2-3 times a day while on accutane I think is too harsh :/
I agree, that's very harsh. You should only wash your face twice a day anyway, and on accutane washing can be very drying.
i suggest lowering it to once in the morning, and cetaphil moisturizer at night. What cleanser are you using? Because 'soap' of any kind is awful
Well I have been using a soap that contains salicylic acid even before accutane, but I stopped using it now and switched to a mild cleanser by Neutrogina.
The peeling stopped now but my face is burned. I think it might be a second degree burn and I think it will take 3-4 weeks to heal. But still, I'm confused.
