Should I take antibiotics?

Hello, I have been having mild-moderate acne for about 1 year now. As mentioned, it is not very severe, so should I be taking antibiotics?

To give you guys some background info, my acne is mostly around my forehead, brow and cheek area. The acne on my forehead is mostly closed comedones and whiteheads, which sounds quite tame, but they grow together so closely my forehead is FILLED with them. As for my cheeks, there's the occasional inflamed acne, but mostly closed comedones and some whiteheads. (Those on my forehead are similar to No.1 and No.2 on  It looks like the first two on  http://acne.about.com/od/acnesymptoms/tp/noninflamedacne.htm . )

So as you guys should tell by now, my acne is not severe. However, both my older brother and mother had severe acne while they were teenagers, which of course started out as the mild acne I have today. I'm worried that if it's not treated while its still at the mild-moderate stage, it might become some full blown severe acne, which I DEFINITELY do not want.

Topical acne treatments such as benxyol peroxide have not been working for me, so I'm going to the dermatologist soon for some professional advice and treament. However, I've noticed that many dermatologists seem to be somewhat careless in dishing out antibiotics or even accutane? I'm only 14, so is it worth it to be taking antibiotics at such a young age? Will there be side effects, especially if I'm taking them for a long period of time? Also, which antibiotic is the most 'mild'? I have a friend who has acne as well, and the doctor prescribed her antibiotics for 10 MONTHS. Is it even healthy to be taking antibiotics for 10 months?

So yeah. Feeling really conflicted now. I want a clear face, but I want my health too. Any advice?

Antibiotics as an acne treatment is never a good idea. It is soooooo bad for your gut and overall health. Some people will use it at the beginning of a treatment such as retin a, spiro or accutane to curb the initial breakout but then they ween off. With mild acne such as yours, I wouldn't even recommend doing that. Why not ask your derm for retin a or differin? You could also improve your diet to see if that helps matters ( dairy no gluten free)

its it's normal to have acne at your age so just keep on keeping on

I don't recommend antibiotics. I was on them twice and sure they helped but my acne always came back and I didn't like the fact that I was taking antibiotics when I wasn't actually ill. Theyre only a temporary fix.
