Hi guys.

I I was wondering if any of you had got roaccutane through a private dermatologist. If so where did you find them and how much did your course of roaccutane cost?

I will tell you my nightmare NHS story... I got referred back in January for an appointment in July (as I went away in the interim) however, when I got to the hospital it wasn't to see a dermatologist for roaccutane but for a mole removal?!?! Anyway again my GP referred me to the hospital. After waiting 2 months I called to find out what was happening. Turns out the hospital had lost my appointment. Soagain, I got referred by my GP at end of September... Guess what had happened when I called the hospital to chase it. There was no record of them recieving it, despite having confirmed they had it a few days previous. I also complained to the hospital which was ignored and only when I threatened took to the ombudsman did I get an acknowledgement.

Three lost referrals later...

has any one else had really trouble getting it? Or am I on my own here? My parents said they would pay to go private but I feel like they shouldn't have to!!!

Help! Just want to talk to people who know my frustrations and where I am coming from

Hi, I didnt go to my GP. I just booked an appointment witha private dermatologist direct. I just rang up my local privateHospital and booked an appointment as a "self funding" patient. 1st appointment can cost between 150-180 but I was able to pick the appointment date and was booked in to see a private derm 2 weeks later andPicked up a course of roaccutane on the same day asmy appointment.I do my monthly blood tests with my NHS GP to keep the cost down as private blood tests can cost a lot......My first 6 week course of roaccutane cost just under 15 and I'm back to have a follow up appointment with my derm next week.....

If you or your parents are able to afford to do it private, I really would recommend it....No waiting, no delays and dont have to wait to be referred by your GP. I didnt even contact my GP to tellthem....If you see a private derm, just make sure you do your blood tests with your NHS GP...The derm will write you a letter and give you a blood test request form to give them........doing the blood tests that way will keep the cost down..I think many people just do the blood tests at the private hospital where they have their appointment, not knowing you can do it for free with your NHS GP....

Best wishes with treatment...

I went private, and went to a local private hospital. I spoke to the derm there and told her I had been on this and that cream and antibiotics, and she prescribed me roaccutane there and then (obviously having to wait until after the blood tests). I had no problem, but every derm is different
