I got off an 8 month course of accutane 2 months ago. Any recommendations for what's left? It was apparently very aggressive as my doctor thought I would be clear 3 months into my treatment, and I just really stopped producing new cysts about a month after I was done. I'm 6'4 175 lbs, was on 80 mg daily. Dermatologist says I can't start again for at least a year. I know it looks bad but it was far far worse at the beginning - it hurt just to take my shirt off or on. I don't believe there is any active now. Also - while it was there it was never severe on face. You can't even tell I had it now

I was in a similar situation to you except my back had the worst scarring.
I came off accutane about a year ago and the appearance of the scars has improved so much, most of the colour has faded and nearly all of them have flattened. You can still tell it's scar tissue but it's a lot less noticeable.

I think you should just wait it out and see what happens as you aren't supposed to use any scar treatments until 6 months after finishing accutane I think?

I've been dermarolling too and it seems like it's helping to flatten the few raised ones which are left but this might just be my imagination because I wouldn't expect it to have any effect on raised scars...

Apparently silicone scar sheets are good for raised scars so you might want to try that whilst the scars are still quite new?

Thanks a lot. It just makes youfeel helpless. Yeah, my back is covered as well. And I continue to get cysts sometimes, I keep worrying it will come back with a vengeance.ijust don't get it. Thanks that really does help and I'm gonna try the scar sheets

I think the cysts stopped coming up for me around 1 month after I finished accutane and then I starting using rosehip oil as it was supposed to help with redness but it just made me break out again. It did finally settle back down again though.

My face is clear 90% of the time now. I still get a few cysts on my back but it's nothing compared to before accutane and they seem to go away faster as well. I think my accutane doseage was too high as the inital breakout I had after I began taking it was what left me with most of the scarring, so if I ever did have to go on it again I think I would ask for a lower dose maybe spread out over a longer time. The pain whilst I was on accutane was so bad and the cysts would weep and stick to clothing and bedsheets but I'm so glad it's over now, It's sad that after finally getting rid of the acne which held me back for so long, I'm now left with scars, but I think it was worth it.

Good luck! :)
