Hello all! My name is Liz, and this forum will be home to my Accutane journey!

A little bit of history about me:

I have had acne since I was 12. It gradually got worse as I got older. I don't remember the last time I actually left the house without full concealer/foundation and other forms of making my skin "neutral". It's so bad it affects every personal relationship I have and has always been a detriment to my life. I am sure you all know.

A little bit about my acne/skin:

I have incredibly oily skin and get cystic acne around my jawline/cheeks, and get nodules on my chin and forehead. My nose has been my saving grace. As I got into adulthood they got horrible, specifically in the last four months. Some of my cysts are from July. They are always painful to the touch (like a purple nerple!) The rest of my body is luckily acne free except for a few cysts on my back that aren't painful

My skin is incredibly resilient and bounces back easily, but recently my hyper-pigmentation hasn't been healing as quickly as it used to. Adulthood haha.

My skincare regimen?:

I have tried everything under the sun. But for my Accutane I am using:

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser x2 daily

Cocoa Butter Formula Daily Calming Facial Lotion x1 nightly (will up when skin dries out)

Chamomile

Aloe Vera

Vitamin E

Milk Proteins

Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil x2 daily (locks in moisture really well without being greasy)
10ish Essential Oils

St Ives Naturally Indulgent Body Lotion 1-3 times daily

Home-made Toner x2 daily

Aloe Vera Clear Gel

Crushed up Aspirin

Water

Tea Tree Oil

Neosporin

(OPTIONAL) Apple Cider Vinegar at night only!

My dosage:

We are starting at 40mg once a day, and in the next three months will get up to 120mg given as 40-60mgs 2-3 days

What foods am I eating?:

As a vegetarian that tries to keep vegan (but cheese though lol), I have been incorporating one of the following into my life before taking the tablet. I normally snack on something after a 30 minutes - 1 hour. Or, you know, grab a spoonful of peanut butter. With accutane, fats are incredibly important for absorption, and I have noticed in reviews, people experience far less of the more detrimental side effects if they are making sure to eat HEALTHY fats with their pill.

Avocados

Peanut Butter

Walnuts or Peanuts

Any nuts really

EVOO

Peanut butter is the best thing in the world, hands down.

Photos?! (Week 0/Start):

I went ahead and attached them all below because they are huge! But it shows the severity of my lovely (ha!) acne.

I will be posting weekly with new photos and side effects I have noticed. I will also post any dietary changes I am making and such. Here's to the next five months!

One Month In!

Hello! So, going to do one gigantic update since I have been super neglectful of this the last few months.

These photos were from about a month into my Accutane Regimen. I had just wrapped up the 40MG dosage and was moving into the 80MG dosage.

I didn't notice the dryness too much in the first month. I kept well moisturized. Nothing else incredibly notable about this month.

Two Months Down!

So this was about two months into my regimen, it was my first month on the 80MG dosage. The dryness really set in at this point, I went to straight aquaphor on my lips and do not even get me started with trying to cope if I didn't have a lip balm in sight for over 30 minutes. Cracking at the sides of my lips also started up, trying to combat that with neosporin (I have heard wonderful things, but my lips crack again first thing in the morning when I brush my teeth). Definitely a noticeable difference, really haven't been getting cysts (yay!) and the oil skin is so far gone that I finally swore off most cleansing products and use only a few light products. CeraVe and Cetaphil, but my favorite is definitely the GrapeFruit Lemon Balm scrub by Yes! It's like 10 bucks and doesn't really harm my skin. It actually soothes it.

Also, for the TMI part. Bleeding from my cracked bottom hole. That sucks too. Infrequent, but happens. Hair is also dry most days, combating that dryness is a whole new ball game.

Three Months In!

Chin redness! Arggghhh. Anyways, back to the science. Ignore the giant scar on the bottom of my chin, had a bicycle accident this week and slammed my face into the ground. Had to get stitches. Got them removed and healed pretty well.

As far as breakouts are concerned, I have a few small ones. When I do get them they love to come all around my mouth like a pimple goatee. But it's not nearly as bad as when I started. Sides of my face have cleared up astoundingly, jawline pimples are gone.

Dryness is at an all time high, my lips are always chapped and my skin is flaky. Once a few more of these clear up I am going to go ahead and swear off makeup. My nose is also dry all the time. That sucks, looks like I always have a cold.

All other symptoms persistent, but easily enough combatted. My hair is super brittle so I am being especially kind to it. The moisturizing has helped tremendously with combatting aging symptoms.

Hopefully will be up to 120MG in the next few days.

Looks like you're making good process on the 'tane! It's likely you'll get even better in the next two months, so things are looking up!

And keep smiling, you've got a nice smile!
