Please help me out here... my son took accutane for about a month and a half or maybe a little longer (less than two months though). He was taking 60 mg/day. He is off now because he has had to take antibiotics. (he has been off for 5 days and will be off another 2 weeks for the antibiotic course.) However we are pretty sure we are going to stop totally. He has a bunch of side effects including joint pain, muscle ache, and just feeling like crap.
It stinks because his acne has gotten better but it's not worth the side effects (in my opinion.) However, his acne is truly awful, very painful.
My question is, will these side effects likely go away?? I know there are people dealing with side effects years later. I don't know if the length of time on the med has anything to do with it. I am really terrified that my son will always feel this bad. He is physically and mentally exhausted right now.
Any thoughts? Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear your son has had a rough ride! I was absolutely fine on the drug, but my brother had dreadful side's and had to stop.
As far as I see it's a gradual improvement when you come off of accutane -- the drug stays in your system for a good couple of months after you stop, so the side effects may persist for a bit longer, but they will eventually go.
