Using Birth Control For Mild Acne?

i've been looking into starting to use birth control recently (have never been on it before) and was wondering if it would have an effect on my acne at all considering it is only mild/moderate-- the worst of it being around "that time" when I usually have a few cystic spots pop up around jawline/mouth.

If so, what would be recommended? Preferably something with the least side effects-- main concerns are weight gain and of course an INCREASE in acne-- that's a no no.

(Also note that I'm a bit scared of Yasmin/Yaz due to the whole blood clotting risk/issue)

Thanks

It depends on the birth control and the person who responds to it.

The thing is finding the right birth control (antiandrogenic in your case) that you body handles.

I've been on Tri-Sprintec since last November, I believe. I think it's helped me more than other pills I've tried. As a matter of fact, I did a lot of searching and there was a very detailed, helpful post on here that discussed various birth control pills and their chemical makeups (more/less androgenic).

What others have you tried? (sorry if this is too personal/prying, just out of curiosity)

Did you have any initital breakouts etc?

Not too personal at all! :) I've tried a lot of different ones. Lo Loestrin FE (gave me HORRIBLE cramps...like an ice pick), Yaz (made me feel nuts), Yasmin (didn't like how it made me feel), Ortho-Lo (when I stopped taking it due to no insurance I felt as though I came out from under a fog). I may have tried a few more but can't remember for sure. The ones listed I took for a length of time. Tri-Sprintec is the only pill I've taken to where I don't feel weird in any way. However, I'm 35 years old. My age may have something to do with it. I have a few breakouts initially, but I've been off my spironolactone for about a month and am having major breakouts all over my chin. I ran out and haven't been able to get back to the doctor to get another prescription. I go back this Thursday, thank goodness.
