Hey all,

I am a 32yr old female in Scotland and I started Roaccutane yesterday. (At 20mg).

As you can see from my profile pic (which is sideways for some reason), I have horrific chin acne. I also have blackheads on nose (with a bit of rosacea) and I also have it on chest & in groin (ew!) which is especially painful.

I've tried antibiotics - oral and topical as well as Retin-A gel. And all the non-comedogenic products and make-up. None of it works. The GP just fobs you off until you insist on a referral. I will probably wish I did this years ago!

I had a pounding headache today and I feel my face is drier already - late in day now and no oil slick on nose! The bad boys on my chin already seem less "live" if you see what i mean - not throbbibg & sore, more dried out and scabby.

Good luck to you all!

Day 3...headache is gone but just had a tremendous dose of diorrhoea!!! Not sure if this is cos I'm taking an antibiotic for bacterial vaginosis as well - metronidazole.

Really reminded me of the squits you get when you're on orlisat/alli if any of you have taken that.

Day 5...chin and skin in creases round nose has been peeling a bit.

Also had a few little easily poppable whiteheads.

No live monster spots and nothing brewing.

No side effects to speak of at the moment.

Hi, SomeoneGood, welcome to my Diary. I do feel a bit sluggish but I kinda always feel like that! Have been sitting around watching Wimbledon and getting no exercise!

Day 6 today - got a breakout of a cluster of about 3 medium whiteheads on my chin overnight One under ear/one jawline too which is a bit sore. A small one under nose and a small one right on bottom of chin too.

The big one on my groin which was really sore and had been there 3 weeks has now gone thankfully! Never want another motherfucker like that again!

Definitely not experiencing the dry lips/eyes that some talk about. I always put a lot of lipbalm on anyway so maybe I've staved it off. Or maybe I have that to look forward to!

Day 7. Woke up to a big whitehead.

Lip peeled a bit. So did a bit of skin off my chin.

Put on moisturiser which has always been fine on my skin (avene) and had an allergic reaction! Face went red & swollen!

Day 11. Just a couple of whiteheads still appearing. Face pretty dry, flaky and a bit red.

Terrible dandruff has showed up! Getting in my eyebrows as well!

Lips ok as have bought tons of medicated lipbalm.

Thanks Lee! Welcome to my diary.

Day 20/21 now.

Skin flaky round chin and nose creases.

Hardly have to wash hair much tho!

No oily feeling even tho it's the end of the day.

No active spots.

A few blackheads squeezed out easily.

*checks face in mirror*!

Lips obviously still dry. Face a wee bit red but not so as anyone notices.

Thanks Chris. Yes, I always react pretty fast to medication. Eg I had Botox a while back and it kicked in fast. I must have a good metabolism or something.

My hair is looking great!

Inside of nose a bit peeling though.

Yeah, I've got the flaky arms & I'm dry round the fingernails - always had a bit of a hang-nail problem anyway.

No grease on face at all even by evening. And definitely no live spots. Looking forward to blackheads starting to come out. Seen a little of that already.

Feeling pretty well too. Only on 40mg at the moment but may go up to 60mg soon as coming to end of month 1.

Good luck to anyone reading this!

Moving into Month 2 shortly and going up to 60mg.

"Worst" side-effect (still not very severe though): Flaky, itchy scalp and eyebrows. But can go a week without washing hair! :-) Only washing it today because I want to put conditioner/hair oil on scalp.

Other side-effects (very easily manageable)

Tops of arms very dry.

Lips dry but using medicated lipbalm

Eyes ok. Have't noticed any dryness.

Energy low but have been working a lot and not eating right!

Progress:

A couple of random black dots appeared on face and then squeezed out easily.

The deep blackheads are still there though.

No live spots except one on groin. Only moderate severity though.

Face dry, skin tone looking even though, face feels soft too.

Good luck, guys!

Week 6. I have a rash on chest and back. Maybe due to sweatiness as it's hot and I've been moving boxes. That may also explain why my muscles are sore - although that is a known side-effect.

I do feel very tired and a little bit down.

Spots are, however, a distant memory!

It'll soon be time to move up to 80mg I think and I'll stay on that til I'm finished the course.

Bit disappointed not to have seen more blackheads come out by now.

Patience, I suppose.

Had a big, sore spot in my groin today. More like a blood-filled cyst than a whitehead. You could see the blood under the surface.

Eventually succeeded in squeezing it this pm and it was a small river of mainly blood and some white pus that oozed out. Took about 3 goes and I think there will be an aftershock later.

My face is definitely not flaky any more. Perhaps you get more of that in the beginning before it settles down.

Blackheads seem really obvious now. Skin peeling in these areas so let's hope they pop out soon.

Looked flaky today so gave skin a gentle scrub with exfoliator and flannel.

2 months in and on 80mg.

Thick pieces of skin peeling off my nose.

Arms & hands incredibly itchy. Skin peels off and leaves very red skin & scabs up.

Having a hard time at work and feeling pretty down.

Arms and hands are a right mess!

Arms are still a bit flaky but face not so bad now. Still on 80mg/day. More than half way through now. No spots to be seen either on face or on rest of body. Flaky patches on back that I had pre-accutane have also cleared up. Not really seeing much progress on the blackheads though, disappointingly. Starting to think that's not what they are - just wide pores maybe.

Hello everyone, just a few days until I am finished Accutane. Clear skin for Christmas - wayhey!

I've noticed my ankles being very stiff and sore the past few weeks but I'm not sure if that's because I am am overweight rather than a side effect of accutane.

Other than that, the side-effects have tailed off and/or I'm used to them now!

Am definitely looking forward to coming off though and seeing the redness disappear hopefully. And being able to wear lipstick without the flakiness!

I hope this diary has been useful for someone. Let me know if you have any questions!

I'll try to remember and update after I've been off for a month or so.

Good luck to everyone else!

Forgot to say I still have open pores on nose 🙁
