Hello! I'm extremely concerned because my dermatologist instructed me to take two 40 mg Accutane (Claravis) pills daily. This will be my first month of my isotretinoin treatment. I have also never taken Accutane previously. I weigh 120 pounds (approximately 55 kg). It seems that most people start by taking 40 mg a day. If the patient is tolerating it, their dermatologist will bump up their dosage. I have expressed this to my dermatologist and she explained that "we always prescribe this dose." It just doesn't feel right to be taking 80 mg daily! That seems insane! To make things worse, I calculated my "cumulative dose," and it is 220 mg/kg (when I know it's supposed to top out at 150 mg/kg)! I'm so hesitant to start because of this. It was difficult enough to obtain Accutane and now that I have it in my hands, I'm too afraid to take it. Am I in the wrong to be questioning this or what? My acne is definitely not severe (more like moderate and persistent). What should I do?

im 170 pounds and started at 40mg first month, now im at 80mg. I believe the reccomended dose tops off at 1.3mg/kg? That sounds a leztle high to me. I believe you should call your dermatlogist and ask them why they put you on that dose, as well as call a second dermatologist and ask if that is medically sound. If the initial derm seems like they have a couple screws loose just get a different derm theres plenty.

I TOO AM ON 80MG A DAY AND AM 120
I STARTED SEPTEMBER 16,2015
AND TO TOP IT OFF MY DOCTOR ALSO TOLD ME THE SAME THING. "WE ALWAYS START OFF AT 80MG"
I WAS SCARED TO START, BUT I DID ANYWAYS BECAUSE I WAS SIMPLY DESPERATE.
NOW AM ON MY SECOND MONTH, WELL STARTING, AND MY PIMPLES ARE FLATTENING OUT, BUT I AM FULL OF RED MARK. MY ACNE WAS AND IS SEVERE THOU, WITH POTENTIAL TO SCAR.
FOR THE SYMPTOMS, WELL, I AM GETTING REAL ANXIOUS THROUGHOUT MY DAY, TO THE POINT WHERE I FEEL LIKE I LOOSE AIR. ITS REAL UNCOMFORTABLE. AND MY HANDS CRAP UP. I MEAN I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT YOU WONT REALLY KNOW IT UNTIL YOU GO THOUGHT IT.
DID YOU START? HOW IS IT GOING WITH YOUR PROGRESS?

There has been a study suggesting a 220mg/kg cumulative dose shows better longterm remission of acne. Maybe that is what your derm is using to calculate your dosage:

Monitor your symptoms and if you don't feel like you can handle the high dosage, then talk to your doctor. Accutane is rough at the start regardless of your dosage (unless it's an extremely low dosage).

im on the opposite, i have mild-moderate more moderate i think acne and i got prescriped 20mg and 40mg and i weigh 160. I want to be on 80mg and get this over with already and move on with my life. I feel like the low doses are just messing with my skin and making me break out more especially with the stress my doc's giving me.
