Brief introduction. I've been battling with acne for several years. I have been through accutane cure 3 years ago, but it came back. Now I've been using accutane again for 7 months as my derm told me. My weight is 70kg and i took 60mg/day for 7 month and the cumulative dose is 180mg/kg
The thing is that i was offered accutane pills from a friend of mine, which will last for another 2 months and I'm considering going for 2 extra months without my doc knowing. The reason is simple. I am AFRAID that the acne will come back and I want to reduce the risk of relapse. I've read reports that said the relapse rate is smaller if you go for a higher cumulative dose(>220mg/kg).
With that being said, if I take those 2 extra months my cumulative dose will be around 230mg/kg and it will feel safer. I've done blood test during my 7 months of accutane and my doc said that the test were ok.
Should I take an another blood test during my 2 extra months, just to be safe? Is there another thing to think extra about?
I was in the same boat and was going to do the same thing
Blood work every month was normal
I was actually prescribed too much tane by my derm
Dumb office kept accidentally sending higher dose and I didn't argue because insurance
So took less
So have extra but over last few weeks think developed dermatitis side effect tane
Skin is dry and irritated
So stopped 6 months
I see your point but not sure more is always better
You could have beg side effect sneak up on u
What derm say...can u discuss with derm wanting to stay on longer
Have u been clear for a significant time?
