Spironolactone 50 Mg. Bad Symptoms.

Hey all so, in my mid 20's, have had acne since I was 15, blah blah blah sick of it and all that jazz.

I was put on Spironolactone a month ago, and on 25 mg. I bumped up to 50 mg for a week and have felt incapacitated--like I'm dying. When taking 50 mg I get: SEVERE headaches that leave me no choice but to go to bed early ( seriously nothing gets rid of them, and if I move/walk around they feel worse), feeling hung over the next day, and waaay more acne ( I'm getting acne on my forearms--how the crap does that happen?)

It hasn't even worked for my acne yet: It's actually gotten worse on my face, and now I have acne on my forearms and what not. I'm really pissed, because I've been struggling ( as we all have ) forever, and if I don't take care of it, I'll end up having badly aged skin from acne AND wrinkles. Joy.

For the record I'm quite small, the 90 ish lbs range. So maybe 50 mg is too high, but my doctor wanted me up to 100 eventually. So should I give Spiro a chance at 25 mg? Does it even WORK at 25 mg? I haven't had any results yet, I'd say it's been a bit over a month. I know nothing works instantly, but my doctor said there is no initial breakout. Is this bullspit, because I've read otherwise on here.

Thanks! <3

Jenna

Awww sorry to hear about the side effects you are experiencing. I too, experienced a severe headache but on the 100mg dose. It was one time only and was relieved after i took a little nap. Like you, i also started on 25mg and gradually upping the dose to 25mg every 2 weeks. By the end of the month, I was on 100mg. I was actually hoping i'd settle around 75mg but it didn't work for me. Only when i started the 100mg dose did Spiro worked. The cystic acne stops forming and the whiteheads all over my chin disappear. My face became very smooth which i never had in the last 10 years. I wish i have known this medication before. Currently, i'm on my 3rd month on Spiro and my skin couldn't be any better and i couldn't be more happier!

My initial breakout lasted for a month. I was also on Bactrim DS to relieve the inflammation caused by the IB. Also, my weight is just 85 lbs. Till now, i'm only having one side effect - having two periods in a month.

Sorry to hear about your side effects. I'm sort of in the same boat. I've been on spiro (50 mg per day) for about 10 weeks. I too get bad headaches once in awhile, but I know it's tied to dehydration. Days I focus on water intake I feel much better.

I feel like my skin is on a roller coaster. Some days good and other days not. My dr wants me to take 100 mg but I decided to try 50. Wondering if it's time to bump it up, but scared of worse acne.

Ondrea...did you have a flare up with each increase?
