I'm a fifteen year old female and I was prescribed doxycycline in November. I took it until April, when I stopped cold turkey. My parents told me to stop taking the medication because it could be doing me more harm than good but ever since I stopped, my acne has been coming back. I have pimples on my forehead and I'm getting the occasional pimple on my chest or back. What do I do? My skin is almost clear (my marks have faded dramatically) but now I don't want to deal with new pimples and marks. What do I do??
I took the same thing when I was 16, and it was great. I stopped using it and my acne came back as well.
You should see a doctor or dermatologist about your acne maybe you can get a lotion instead of pills prescribed to you. Since you said most of your marks are gone, and your only 15 if you don't do anything about it you migth get new ones like I did which sucks!
Definitely see a doctor or dermatologist about that.
I tend to agree with your parents, you can't be on an antibiotic for a long time, it's just not a good idea
but never quit cold turkey, and get on a topical antibiotic right away -
have you ever tried the acne.org routine exactly as laid out here? sounds like your acne isn't cystic, it just may do the trick on it's own
I agree with your parents too. It's rarely a good idea to stay on antibiotics long-term. I was on antibiotics for a year, and it worked wonders while I was on it, but when I got off it, my acne came back MUCH worse than before; antibiotics will wipe out all the good bacteria in your body, which leads to poor absorption of nutrients in food and a whole host of other health problems (and of course worse skin).
I would definitely recommend trying the acne.org regiment or some type of prescription topical medication. I'm surprised your derm didn't prescribe you something for after you came off the antibiotics.
