Hi
SO I'm starting accutane soon and I'm super nervous! But I trust that if I do whatever my doctor says i Will be fine in regards to serious side effects.
I'm an absolute skincare junkie! I love using different masks and serums etc and even delve into Korean trends (snail cream, honey, green tea) However, I know that skin becomes much more sensitive and dry while on accutane. Would it still be ok for me to use: masks (clay and hydrating sheet masks), a many stepped skincare routine (oil cleanser, regular cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, sleeping mask) and whitening products? (gentle all natural ones and ones with arbutin and nianicimide)
My main concern is parting with me whitening products because they help me with my post acne marks. DO you have any suggestions I could Use for that while on accutane?
And, do you have any recommendations of products to use while on it?
IME dont use anything on your face except maybe a moisturiser if needed.
i would use face washes etc but made my face very red and irritated.
accutane has made my skin the perfect balance texture wise. its not dry but not oily at all so ive not need to moisturise. accutane is the best thing ive ever done. i had severe acne on face back and chest and 20mg a day 90% cleared me about a month and a bit in, only ones left are ver stubborn ones on back and one or 2 pop up occasionally on chest, they are cyctic ones too.
hope this helped:)
While on Accutane I would use only a moistrizer and wash your face with water. You will need no extra Scincare routine while on it, but you can try if you want to and your skin allows it. A really good moistrizer that kept my skin smooth while i was on accutane is Avena Clean Ac, but i dont know if that is aviable in your country. Besides use a Lip Cream regulary( but try a good one, there are too many that your lips get dependent on and didnt work right after) and dont go out in sun without sunblocker. Im a more "brown" skintype and while on accutane i didnt get brown or anything, my skin just stays the uway it was, but yo dont want to have damage to your skin by sun. Drink lots of Water, that was the most Important i guess and eat clean, do mild exercise( Dont do things that damage your skin much or touch your face, your body proparbly will heal very slow and bad, I got stretch marks from weight lifting from my accutane time). But if i were you i would really think about the decision on going on Accutane. What dosage do you want to take and for how long? What servirity of acne you have? and what age?.. Accutane works well for most people but of course like every medication it can go wrong.I guess it does for me,Dont know if i could blame all my probs on it, but seems like it fucked my Life, but your experiences could be positive. But if you decide to do it please search a derm that cares for you and tell them everything you notice from slight pain in joints to mood changes. Hope you will have better experience than i do;) .... I wouldnt use whitnening Creams while on accutane or right after. A regnerative Cream that you can use after your accutane treatment that will make your pores smaller and help you with marks is Avena Triacneal, but again dont know if it is availiable in the us, but there have to be comparabale products over there
I exclusively used CeraVe products for fash wash - I reccomend the Hydrating Cleansing (green) wash. I aslo used CereVe for day cream as it had SPF with zinc - I used Elta MD as well with the added zinc. I was on Asorbica in the summer and needed better protection in sun.
Hey blondie:) im happy that my post helped you I was in the same situation you are right now. Started tane with 16. 6 months on it are in my opinion ideal, I think you will do a low dose treatment as you said you weigh less. I would start at an low dose to see how your body reacts. Proparbly 10 to 20 mg a day at first to keep sides minimal. But I would hear on your derms opinion, he's educated. From using your hones mask is it moisturizing or dryieng out ? And if you have questions just ask
Hey blondiewandie
I just finished my first month on 10 mg/day. I'm doing the low dose regime.
I've had quite a few side effects: bloating, dry eyes, dry lips, dry face
In regards to products, I've been able to keep my regime pretty much the same. I do a make up wipe, cleanse, toner, oil, lotion. My face is drier so I find I'm using more lotion. But other than that its pretty much the same. I still do face masks once every week or two. My derm just said to stay away from products with salacylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. It's really just trial and error to see what works best for you. I think the whitening creams may be a bit too harsh so I would stay away from them. You usually deal with the scarring once your accutane treatment is over!
