Hi, just wondering has anyone here taken minocycline before and then take doxycycline in a period afterwards and prefer doxycycline over minocycline?
I took minocin about 3 or 4 years ago and it had moderate effects. My acne stops coming back all the time and i never had a major spot when i was on it i think i remember, but my acne never 100% went and i always had just a few tiny spots here and there, after my 6 months it came back after a while and although my acne isn't that bad, I always constantly have 4/5 major spots and then red blemishes around my cheek area and the odd spot coming in new places every now and again.
Now that was when i was a teenager. I am 21 now and i still have spots although not major enough for accutane ! I want to try doxycycline now to see if it can help stop spots from popping up and hopefully help remove my existing spots and blemishes. Anyone think i should go for this?
I am also thinking taking benzoyl peroxide or differin gel while taking doxycycline, as the antibiotic can fight the bacteria mainly inside my body, while the creams will help fight the bacteria mainly on my face, I believe anyways?

I was on Minocycline throughout high school and loved it, but then about this time last year actually began to have major side effects. Apparently it can cause lupus-like symptoms and I went through about a 2 month period of thinking I had mono or something awful because I had incredible joint pain. I then began Doxycycline from last spring, maybe around April, until this past January when I switched to Ampicillin.
Personally, I found Doxycycline great the first few months I was on it. It decreased the severity of my acne and made things come to a head quickly. I barely had any breakouts through summer, but then in the fall it just seemed to stop working. I began developing severe cystic acne on my forehead and endured it for about 4-5 months even while on Doxycycline until I finally went off of it about a month ago for Ampicillin. So I'm not quite sure how effective it was, seeing as I only noticed improvement for about a 5 month period.
