@OP

Have you read about accutane yourself? Do you know that accutane is a chemo-pill? Made to treat cancer in your brain?

Have you read all the many horrifying stories from past accutane users on here and on many other forums? Have you googled "accutane and long term side effects"?

Have you read about former cases run against the company behind accutane, called Roche? Former users of accutane suing Roche and winning?

I hope you don't end up ruin your life for ever, like me and many, many others.

Thanks for your concern, but I am a big girl and made an educated decision after exhausting all other options to take this medication.

Sorry for the negative experience you have had.....the reality is, with any medication, you run the risk of side effects.its crap shoot no matter what

BUT my husband was on accutane in his 20's, and didnt have a a single negative side effect unless you call curly hair a negative side effect (which I do not) and he also has been through chemo ...and is now the healthiest person I know.

Again...sorry for your experience but this wasnt an easy decision foranynof us...

day #14..down the hatch!

Daniel, I read your other post and that is very sad that you are suffering bad long term side effects. However, from what I understood you took 3 courses. And you don't remember the dosage. Maybe that was just too much for your body. I personally would never accept to do 3 courses. I would even question a second one. This being said, I am not saying that you are lying but please be conscious that we started accutane knowing what the hazards are. I researched the topic for 4 years and I ended up evaluating the benefits greater to the risks. I know all the possible side effects. And I still want to continue my course. For the moment, everything is doing fine for me and I will stop if something really bad happens. Please don't try to scare us. It's already a hard moment.

Hey Ana, nice to meet you

ham: im so sorry for all the negative side effects you are feeling. I would recommend (just like everyone else) to contact your derm and discuss your issues

**i hate it so much when people come on here and post their negative opinions on our choice to go on accutane. I mean its not something anyone "wants" to do. We have tried everything else and are starting to loose our minds(atleast in my case) and are making a choice to try and improve our lives. No one has the right to judge us or look down on us for making this decision. I believe we are all smart informed patients, we understand the side effects and have made an informed choice that the pros out way the possible cons. There are forum topics for those who have had negative outcomes from accutane but this is not one of those. The only way to get through this time is to stay positive and that's what this particular discussion is about

sorry for the outburst in just kinda spilled out of me haha

I really do think the poster meant well...however, its a tad insulting as if we dont understand the risks of taking accutane and came to this decision lightly

Please show me links, articles, stories etc to a prescription medicine that "shows" as many side effects as accutane....

Right now there is a big case in the UK, where 8 moms are running a case vs Roche. All these moms lost their child (suicide) due to accutane.

A guy in the US is also taking his case to court. This is about accutane giving dysfunction erectile

A fellow danish girl has had her case for court since last year due to side effects ruining her life

Then there is my own case.

Here is a link to acctune lawsuits http://www.drugwatch.com/accutane/lawsuit.php

Here is a forum "dedicated" to the side effects of accutane [Edited link out]

Here is a 83 page long thread with personal side effects stories due to accutane

Fact is, you're taking a gamble with your life with this drug. This is a clear fact. And you're not doing so, because your life is in danger. You're doing so because you have bad skin....Think about that for a moment...

But I will stop "hijacking" this thread and wish you the best of luck with this drug.

Hi everyone! May I join you?
I'm on day 12 today

Taking 40 mg a day. I'm 174 cm, 65 kg.

Feeling a bit depressed from day to day, some days are really good, some days I feel like I just want to stay inside my apartment and cry the Whole day. Actually had to stay away from forums for a while, since I was so worried for side effects, while at the same time worrying for not experiencing any of the side effects Lips are dry, but I've been dreading the muscle and joint pain the most, fearing I would not be able to go to the gym, but so far so good. Have stopped lifting Heavy weights, but I run a lot and attend classes at Barry's bootcamp.

I'm actually taking my daily dose With evening primerose in Liquid form. Trying to moisturize from the inside I guess... .

Coffee, Welcome to the club!

I'm on day 13 so we're right on the same track. It definitely sucks but we have a pretty solid support group going on over here and it really helps to go through this stuff together.

Good Luck!!

Well, took my exams, but right now, my forehead and the area around my nose feels so congested because of the cold..

Couldnt sleep, ive been having a terrible lack of sleep. Have to study for physics and biology *sigh*

I just wish friday comes fast and i can have my sleep hours back. Update on accutane :

Ive noticed a slight tightness, could be the dryness starting to kick in. The pre-accutane break out is taking its sweet time to go down. Its still manageable though. Hope IB delays a little, a little pimple on my forehead, but that is the usual. Although i have noticed my skin texture has improved.

So... How about you guys?

Oh! And hi coffee!

Hey coffeegirl

I'm on day 21 and I think I'm the farthest in so you fight right in...I also run a lot and have noticed a little back pain but my Derm said I could take an Advil if I get any pain so that room care of it.

Kim: I've noticed my skin getting a few odd bumps here and there that really looks like my skin is just pushing out all the gunk at once which is kinda cool

**do you guys drink a lot of coffee? I kinda have a coffee addiction and and I feel it might be make my skin even drier

Kim: is your hair still shedding? This morning in the shower a LOT of hair came off when I ran my fingers through my hair. Way more than usual. I love my hair and I am worried...

Geez I was really hoping to sail through this but I dunno :/

Good vibes out to everyone today.

Hi everyone!

I have been reading you for the past weeks but today I've decided to share my experience so far. I am on day 22. I weigh 130 lbs and I am taking 30 mg/day until the end of the week and then I will be upped to 60 mg/day for 4 months. I don't have any bad effect to report. My skin got worst at the end of week 1 and it looks like it's calming down now. The pimples were hurting like crazy but disappeared faster. I am prepared for another breakout. My skin is a little drier (it peels a bit around my nose) but nothing uncomfortable. My lips are a little dry, but once again, not uncomfortable at all. I have been using lip balm from day 0. (I was already addicted to lip balm anyway.) My scalp was itchy for a couple days around day 10 but either it went away by itself or the Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp Care I bought really worked. No particular fatigue, joint or back pain. As I said on other posts, the only bad thing for the moment is how I look, but this is (I hope!!!) temporary. It has been so easy until now that I am really scared of increasing my dosage. And as winter is hard here (Quebec City, Canada), I can surely expect extreme dryness.

Ok, so good luck everyone, I hope everything is fine for all of you and don't give up! We have to focus on the numerous success stories!! Thank you for sharing your experiences, it really helps!

(Oh and sorry if my English is strange.)

Also, my skin was unusually oily around the end of the 1st week and remains quite oily right now. But also peeling.

Hi Mary welcome!!!

we weigh about the same..my Dr wanted to start me on 40mg, but I was chicken so she started me on 20mg

was supposed to bump up to 40mg on day #14 but I didnt (today is day #16)

She said if I didnt have an IB by day #14, i wouldnt have one (i do not believe her!)

Plus scared of other side effects

Its great that things are going so well for you...please keep us posted when i bump the dose

Im going to talk to my Dr at my follow up about trying 30mg before 40mg

Are u using daily moisturizer all over? only dry areas?

I am still struggling with this as all hydration makes me skin freak out

I wasnt feeling great over the weekend so was in for 3 days and used NO moisturizer and didnt get one new breakouts

My face felt like the tim man though so I caved

Keep us posted..hope things continue to go well!

Thanks Kim. Let me know what your doctor says.

Just checked out your gallery..nice to put a name to a face!

Of course u already look great but I am in a similar boat

Most would call my breakouts mild-mod but persistent

I always had a handful coming or going..antibiotics, topical.. nothing helped

after 4 yrs I was FED UP

I also couldnt wear makeup or use any skincare or would break out..so would stay home and hide and reserve makeup for holidays/soecial occasions...it was riduculous!

Oops

dumb phone hit report button by accident

my bad!!

Sorry

Idk I dont want to be too optimistic...heard about people claiming they had ib mnth 30-94

Maybe it depends on dosage increase

but most of the stories I've read people show some improvement by 30 days-ish and look amazing by 3 months

Thats what I believe will happen for us

Welcome Mary, good to meet you I am also on day 22ish so we're in about the same place

Update on me

#day 22 (wow three weeks down)

-skin may be improving but I definately don't want to get ahead of myself so im not even going to tell myself that it is for sure...karma and everything haha

-dry lips and skin still of course..especially around my nose, I started to use aquaphor around the nose area and it seems to help

-I am still feeling sluggish around mid afternoon which I'm almost certain is due to the treatment but it's nothing I can't handle

-on my run today I started to get some lower back pain again around mile 6 and it forced me to cut it short

***I'm in training for my first half-marathon in April so this is something I'm not to happy about
