OH GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have two (maybe 3) new tiny ones on my forehead (close to my hairline). My forehead had been clear for 4-5 months now. It was the first to clear up. Does that mean that that was it?? I'm already going back to square one????? WTF!!! I just can't find words to express the horror I feel now. Sorry guys, I don't want to frighten you but I have to vent. :wall:

I would like to add that I have never suffered from severe acne, but a mild-moderate persistent one. Like I used to always have 2 to 5 active ones at a time. How can this drug not work on me but work on the most severe cases??? Is there something to understand?

same same sammmmme here Mary

I had mild persistant and only certian areas of my face

now i breakout around my eyes, nose and forehead and my problems areas are clear

wtffff

:wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall::wall:

Mary, Sorry! I had the same thing happen to me for my first two weeks after tane but they cleared up real quick and since then I've had nothing new! Also, while nothing dramatic, I have been taking daily pics of my red marks under the same lighting and they are definitely improving...slowly and suddely but there is definitey a difference from week to week....ill try to keep everyone posted..

AWSOME DERPPPP

This wed will be 3 weeks

I hade it rough the 2 weeks after i stopped as well

I keep hoping this will pass!

Hey everyone!! Im on day 17 and breaking out like CRAZY. Im now definetly in my purging period.

During the first week I broke out in many whiteheads.

During second week my skin was pretty clear, just full of scabs but almost everything was flat and inactive. Dryness really start to kick in in my lips and skin.

NOW.. Since day 14, beginning of week 3, I started to REALLY break out in CYSTS. Painful and red and deep cysts. I have never had cysts that hurt this much. They are in my problem area, which is my lower cheeks. My foreheads, upper cheeks, chin and nose are so clear, but every single improvement is hiden by the red monsters in my lower cheeks.

Now, for some reason I am quite relaxed. I think I finally understood that this is a phase which i have to pass through. Right now I am almost sure Im in my worst moment, and i think that whatever happens next, wheather im going to clear or continue breaking out, this will be the worst I will be.

Of course Im avoiding every single social situations but luckily i have to study because lots of exams are coming so I have the perfect excuse hehe

Even though Im breaking out like hell, I have seen a major positive thing in my skin. I always stand up in front of a window which gives natural light and see my skin in a hand mirror. I turn my face to a side, so that the lighting hit every single bump in my face and in that way I can really see the texture and the condition of my skin. Before accutane, although i used to have less active spots than now, my skin was all bumpy and congested. Today I did the same and was surprised that I had much more less bumps and my skin is overall more healthy, more normal, the texture has improved a lot.

So lets stay positive!!!!!

Mary and Kim: Dont panic if you get some spots the first couple of weeks after being off accutane. I have heard that this can happen right after finishing the course and soon everything will be clear. Many accutane users claim that their skin was at their best after finishing the course.

Regarding the cysts, will they come to the surface as a whitehead or just vanish under the skin and never come to a head? My main concern is that its been there for like 3 days and nothing happens.

Good luck to you all!!!

Thanks Lucy..hope u are right!!!!!

Might , for the hell of it, make an appt with a new derm

I never liked the derm that prescribed tane and at my last appt she said i looked great from 4 feet away and had one foot out the door

When i called in a panic a few days later because of new bumps her nurse told me to use cetaphil?cerave

:huh::angry:

I wasnt given any after tane instruction except to go for b/w in 4 weeks

and if i didnt hear from them to follow up and call the office (suuuuuureeeeee..Ill call ya!)

Kim let us know how goes w. new derm if you do that!

This post was one post away from going to page 2...i.e never to be seen again and I'm not quite ready to let go!!

STAY STRONG!

Ive been getting red blotches with tiny little bumps in the center on my forehead..the blotch goes away but sometimes the bump stays...derm said it was from dryness.

Im counting down the months so that i can get IPL for this pigmintation.

derm said no tretinoid because it might break me out and it's not worth the risk!

Hey Derp!!!!

Holt crap

My forehead is a mess also

Besides blotchiness

Im having weird flat red splotches

very prominent after washing..seem to calm down after

My skin is still dry/dehydrated

ONLy thing I can use vanicream lite or I get spots..though tane would provide more freedom with products

so Im stuck with dry dehydrated skin or spots :/

*sigh*

I havent tried tret cream either

Just feel my skin is too sensitive/dehydrated

Im seeing the new derm next week

I just want another opinion on post tane regimen

and what my best options are for the bad texture/uneven skin tone etc

Derp..are u only using same cleanser/moisturizer with no actives for the next few mnths?

Hang in there

at least no new spots...trying to look at the silver lining

Month 4 and still breakout out of course a lot lot lot lot less than usual, I have one zit right now. But it's the red rashy facial flushing that bothers me more than this damn zit! One moment my face looks decent and the next it's all bumpy and rashy! Ugh

Sorry Cshock :(

just all that tane in your system causing redness etc..had the same

hang in there!!

Keep u posted derp!

Did the derm rec stopping moisturizer or u just dont feel like you need anymore?

Anyone else feel completely nutty after tane?

What i mean is that I now feel completely obsessed over every little nook and cranny of my face

I get in the mirror every morning and night..an inch from the mirror and look and look

every sun spot, red mark, IB mark, flesh bump, possible new bump but im not really sure, and the who the hell knows bump..could be possible bump? (maybe)?

I think my skin is def better in some ways after tane, and some ways worse (redness dehydration and returned sun spots/freckles)

and maybe i'm just trying to make myself feel better, but being on tane made me sooooooooo hyper sensitive about my skin and its 'condition'

Of course before i had large breakouts and i know they made me feel terrible, so Is it really warranted I feel this terrible now about some scars, freckles, redness etc

I dont know if that made any sense

i think I just want to feel it was the right choice and i should be happier

Oh Kim, I relate so much!! I have become so obsessed with my skin!!! Even if I don't really have active acne right now. I think I almost feel uglier than when I did?? But it is probably just my ''focus'' that has changed. I used to obsess just over active spots and I felt relieved when they went away. Now I just look to my whole face and I notice so many things I hate about my skin. Large pores, bumps, scars, red marks, etc. And I am always so afraid of getting new spots. I thought Accutane would give me some peace of mind, but nope. I sound negative but I think my face looks better. I just have to accept all my flaws now. Keep us updated with the new derm! You,re so lucky to be able to get a derm so quickly. Here I can't even get a recommendation to see one. And even if I did I'd have to wait months before having an appointment. If that was so easy, I would sure try another one too. I'm curious to know what the new one will have to say.

Derp: How long have you been free of active acne?

Cshock: It was totally the same with me. The skin seems to change a lot from day to day on Tane. Don't give up! :)

Hey Mary

So much for seeing a new derm....receptionist assured me she could squeeze me in this week

BUT no such luck

I called every morning to be told no cancellation

I called between 4-5 derms yesterday and first available was July 17!

Things have been going OK

this am I woke with a red blip on side nostril

upsetting but sort of expected

i assume it will be gone or better by tomorrow

Just makes no sense since i dont use moisturizer or anything on nose....anyway.....

Here I am

Just doing OK

Well in the past few days I got 3 more spots

I had an appt with a PA on Friday but had to cancel because schedule conflict

Im going to try to get in this week somehow

NOT going back on tane

Just want someone who can help me with a routine and/or discuss spiro...if that is an option and when i could start to take it

*sigh*

I officially raise my white flag and i have to just be honest and this is based on MY experience but i regret taking tane

I didnt want to have to say it but i am

It didnt eliminate breakouts..I havent gone more than 5-7 days the ENTIRE course and after without some bump/zit/blip

PLUS now my skin is dehydrated and red and i have IB marks as well as indentions Ive never had before

so thats it....its been a little over 4 weeks since i finished tane

I had hope it would get better and it seems like it was but...

:boohoo:

Hi, I'm new here and started Roaccutane last Wednesday. I'm 29 and have had acne since I was about 13/14. Before starting these tablets, I'd had zineryt which worked brilliantly until it stopped working at all. For the last year I'd been on oxytetracycline and duac gel which had pretty much stopped all the spots, but my skin was terribly oily still. Saw the dermatologist last Tuesday and she suggested roaccutane (which I'd never wanted to go on before because of all the horror stories) as even though the other medications were working, I couldn't (and shouldn't) stay on antibiotics indefinitely. So far, I've got very dry lips and yesterday my face started to become sore in the areas that I would normally experience the worst spots. It kinda feels like cystic spot pain and I'm hoping it'll settle down soon. I've got Eucerin that the dermatologist gave me to help with dry skin and I'm using vase line on my lips as she suggested, which is helping a lot.

I have to go back to see her in about 9 weeks to see how I'm getting on and for them to do a follow up blood test.

Is there anything else you would suggest for the pain?

Thanks, Katie

I so understand Kim! I wouldn't say that I regret but I don't think it changed much. The worst I think is the state of my skin post Tane. It's like a battle field after the war. It's good tough not to have "monsters" popping up and not having to worry about ugly white heads. Well for now. My skin is at a quiet state and I enjoy it. (I think BP on my chin every night helps a lot)

Thats great Mary!

Maybe things are headed in the right direction

i think we need patience post tane and I misy admit patience has never been my strong suit

So, I sa a new PA

and holy banana..that was a BUST!

The first thing she said was how great I looked

:|

I new that was the nail in the coffin right there

I complained about continued breakouts and red bumps and she told me i cant NOT to expect to ever break out

I asked about products and she said i could use ANY cleanser moisturizer I wanted as they do not break people out

I asked about spiro (meaning down the line/in the future is it something the office feels comfy prescribing) and she rolled her eyes and told me come back in September

BUT she also rec using atralin 2-3x per week

Right now my cheeks are the worst..angry red and bumpy

so I used a TONY bit of atralin (retin-a) OVER moisturizer and I woke up a more dehydrated dry red bumpy mess

I just dont think my skin is ready

I also still feel my routine isnt best for my skin

I picked up some rosacea typle gentle products..maybe that will help

*sigh*

Hang in there all!

Im on day 36 and starting to clear up from mi initial break up which lasted a month with ups and downs. However i must admit its kind of a bummer to read these comments. When you start accutane I guess you put all your hope in that "miracle pill" in tha "magic bullet", betting that after the exhausting course you will be cleared and maybe even cured forever. And then you come across these experiences in the middle of your jourmey and you are petrifyed because maybe all the struggle with accutane and its side effects and the getting-worse-before-getting-better thing, maybe it ends up being all in vain.

Just venting a little bit.

The most sencere best wishes to you all

Xo

I think that people who are the most happy with Tane's results were those suffering from severe acne. The improvement is easily noticeable. When you go from "some persistent acne" to "almost none" the result is less dramatic hence the deception. Honestly I can't believe that some people get a porcelain baby skin. What with the red marks? What with the scars? If they don't have any after Tane I really wonder why they took it in the first place. I think I'm just obsessed with my skin. Now that most acne is over, I focus on other flaws I didn't notice before since I was too busy hating my pimples. I am happy with the results, don't get me wrong, I was just maybe too hopeful and not realistic. And I understand the problem I have with my skin. If there was a pill to help not focusing on every single flaws and feeling so self conscious I would have taken it before taking Tane. I have to just accept how I look. There is not much I can do now.

I'm happy for you things start to clear Lucy!!

Couldn't have said it better Mary..I feel pretty much the EXACT same way!

I didnt think by trading away the larger 'can see across the room' breakouts I would be left with TONS smaller ones/texture issues

I thought assumed my skin would stay as is (of course temp dryness) and the large breakouts would resolve.

For me def changed the texture and look of my skin

Guess you cant have it all..but like you said we need to work on acceptance at this point!

Hang in there peeps!

Glad to hear NO new actives Derp

Let us know how your skin tolerates the retin-a

I used a LITTLE all over and i swear it made my right cheek worse..looking even more red and bumpy....possibly further irritation

GOOD LUCK

Starting out maybe 2-3x a week..even over moisturizer might be a good plan

Sure all they are going to tell me to do is wait

Just wondering how everyone is doing?

are u getting any new spots?

skin becoming less sensitive? spots fading?

is anyone able to use an rx topical?

Im doing OK

today is not one of them (an ok day)

I have a red blip under my eye

I have actually been getting small blips every 2-3-4 days...they are usually small and go away in 1-3 days but still pissed me off

My skin is still dry, tight , red and bumpy

Im having a hard time finding a routine..and this heat in Northern Nj is NOT helping

Its been upper 90's with oodles of humidity

Hope everyone is well!

Glad to hear your doing okay. I'm doing alright as well. So far nothing new, marks are still pretty intense thought I want to say they are sliiightly better then last time I posted (fairly certain some of the red is actually red scar tissue which is going to be permanent). I've been using retin a nightly and im not sure if it's a coincidence but some of my comedones on my forehead are gone (the same night i started using the retin a is the same night I cut my hair short and started to brushing it upwards to avoid getting nasty hair gunk crap on my forhead - so one of the two did the trick). I'm not complaining but three weeks into retin a and I have expereinced zero dryness - my face is exactly the same - I love that but do hope that doesn't mean it's not working...other then that thankfully no nasty actives.
