I feel like I'm bragging about how amazing accutane works for me when everybody on here is going through hell ._.

Anyways bottom line is I have no new active acne spots. The only flaws on my face are dry red patches on the side of my cheek and some red spots from previous acne that are fading. My confidence has shot up and I'm generally more outgoing now and happy to look people in the eye. Crazy to think that it's only been a month and I'm already getting clear. My face usually does respond quickly to treatments so I guess that's a good thing.

. Anyways how do you guys figure out your cumulative dose?

I took 30mg for 2 weeks and now I'm taking 60 my for the rest of the 6 months.

Side effects! ..

Dry lips.

No longer flaking due to the amazing epiceram samples my dermatologist gave me!

Back pain

Shitty night vision

And that's about it.

Not too bad!

I wish you all well. And Kim those blips are a good thing!

well 60mg per day for 5 mnths would be about 9000mg

lets just say first mnth was 30mg...add another 900..so 9,900

For me

At 130 pounds (approx. 59 kg), I need to take between 7080 mg (at the very minimum) and 8850 mg (120-150mg/kg) before the end of the course

I hear lots of people trying to reach a goal of 9,000-10,0000mg at the end of their course

so...Im shooting for about 9600

excuse me..did u say red blips are good :)

Please explain?

today my skin feels tight and looks red bumpy

blah

I went to the pharmacy today to get my extra month and the pharmacist wished to ask me some questions first to see if it really was necessary. I explained my situation and she said that my skin was looking very good now but since the results were so late to come, one extra month might be good. My skin and lips are not dry to a point worth mentioning, my body pain (heels, hips and lower back) is still the same. The only thing that is starting to bother me is ''hot flashes''... mostly my right ear. It would get pretty red and hot for a short period of time. My face also gets sometimes red and feels hot. That's not so bad but I'm just concerned it might get worse and worse. We will see!

By the way, cshock, I am happy for you! It's good to see that some of us actually see quick results on the drug! So brag about it!! ;)

Hey Mary

Glad you got the extra mnth for peace of mind..its not like we cant say we didnt give this everything we had!

I also have the hot flashes..but instead of my ear getting red its my nose

just call me rudolph!

Well I bumped down to 40mg and havent had a new red blip in 2 days

ugh

I really want to get this over with, and stick to 60mg but cant stand these dumb daily spots

I have a crazy busy week ..kids spring concert and my daughters bday

so i think ill stick with 40mg for the next few days and see if i remain blip free..if so ill bump to 60mg again.if the red blips start..... again, Ill need to stick with 40 or maybe get by on 50 and add in the 7th mnth

it is what it is...my derm insists it has nothing to do with the dosage

Sorry for the bumpy ride Derp

I really have a feeling, though it sucks, you (I) might not be completely blip or bump/clog free until after we stop treatment

after treatment our skin will get better and better!

Curious what your derm has to say though!!

Ive had blogged pores and small bumps FOREVER.,,cant fathom all of it going away...if tane isnt going to zap them dead..what will?

Keep us posted!

Cshock....def those that dont have any IB with tane and from the get go their skin gets better and better

that is awesome (though i admit to feeling a quick pang of jelly-ness)

Hope things continue to go well and improve for you!

Accutane is such a co*k tease! I woke up with a cyst on my cheek and a few little bumps around it. I'm no longer going to say good things about my skin because when I do It gets worse. Nothing too bad, still generally clear other than the dry red patched which are still fading. I think it's because I haven't washed my face in three days because I was camping in the mountains. Whoops.

Also about my cumulative dose question I'd like to add that I'm

A male, 18, 5'9 and 144lbs

Snow is coming this week back to Colorado you know... In mid April. Totally normal for us. So I'm expecting to get super dry again but recently the only dryness has been on my lips.

Tane is def a wild ride

I didnt break out until my 4-5 week of tane..than it cleared..happened again..cleared...happened again

big fat tease!

we are almost the same size..kinda

BUT im female, 5'8, 130 pounds

anyway my Dr wanted me on 60mg mnth 1 than 80 mg for 4 mnths

5 mnth plan

BUT couldnt do it....had bad eye issues around mnth 2-3

Sorry if u already addressed it but do you know your Dr plan as far as dosage and timeframe?

well based on my weight (think I mentioned this)

At 130 pounds (approx. 59 kg), I need to take between 7080 mg (at the very minimum) and 8850 mg (120-150mg/kg)

So if u take 60mg for 5 mnths you would be at 9000mg

based on 140 (approx 63 kg)

you would need to take between 7560-9450 to hit the 120-150mg/kg

Back from the derm annnnnnd ANOTHER MONTH OF TAAAANE!!!!!!!!! woot woot. My derm said the comedones I'm looking at are actually milia and they could be taken care of after tane. HOWEVER she noted the big ol inflamed booger on my forehead as well as the one on my nose and said "let's do one more month" so that's going to be six months of 80 mg a day...that's hard-core.

sighhh on another note. do you guys ever have issues drinking? I don't mean alcohol I mean any liquids,.whenever I drink anything it washes off my carmex and my lips get redic dry...does anybody else expereince this??

ANOTHER MONTH FFFFFFFF

I'm so pissed.

Hope all is well by you guys.

Did she say why the milia popped up?

Ive had milia under my eyes my entire life

On maybe mnth 2 of tane they looked so much better, but now they are worse than ever

I was told in the past, they get worse do to clogging products or dehydration?

Guess her take was to get rid of them somehow after tane..products or laser/peel etc?

HOLY CRAP...another mnth!

U must be crushed....sorry

but i guess she just wants to zap this for good!

Im in a mad mood again today..surprise...huh?

woke up to a little red blip on my chin..small but there..skin looks more red and almost patchy

i took 40mg the last 2-3 days and my face is peeling for the first time every and lips are peeling red and raw..worse they have ever been

no advice derp as I apply lip balm literally every half hour

I feel run down emotionally drained and even little nauseous lately

I didnt think I would look/feel like this at this point in treatment

I thought the IB would be long gone and I would have completely clear smooth skin

i understood dryness would be an issue...but again didnt realize how trying it would be overall

Holy shit this better be worth it!!!!!!!

Sorry again derp :(

I thought u where going to be out first graduate!

Hoep everyone is well

interesting info I found on low dose and cumulative dose

Low doses are as effective as high doses

Research has shown that isotretinoin at doses of 0.1 mg/kg per day is as effective as doses of 1 mg/kg per day in terms of acne clearance.2, 3 A recent study found that acne clearance rates were between 92 95% in people taking isotretinoin 20 mg per day for six months (equivalent to 0.28 mg/kg per day, with a cumulative dose of 52 mg/kg).1 This is comparable to the rate of clearance achieved with a traditional regimen of 0.5 1 mg/kg per day, with a cumulative dose of 150 mg/kg.1

Adverse effects increase with increasing dose

Adverse effects of isotretinoin are dose dependent and become more common, and more severe, with higher doses.1, 3 At 1 mg/kg per day, 98% of patients report adverse events, such as eczema, impetigo and photosensitivity, while at doses below 0.25 mg/kg per day, 50% of patients report adverse effects, which are generally less severe.3

There is little evidence to support cumulative dosing

The duration of treatment with isotretinoin is currently based on the calculated cumulative dose. This method is used because several early studies suggested that relapse one to two years after a single 16-week course of isotretinoin was more common in people treated with 0.1 mg/kg per day than those treated with 1 mg/kg per day.3 This was interpreted to mean that the strongest long-term response from isotretinoin was obtained if the cumulative dose reached 120 140 mg/kg.3

Subsequent research, however, has not supported cumulative dosing.3 Long-term follow-up studies show rates of relapse between 40 52% several years after treatment.3 These studies have concluded that relapse risk is determined by age, severity of acne and seborrhoea after treatment, but not by daily dose, duration of treatment or cumulative dose.3

Duration should be based on patient response

There are no studies that have specifically assessed the most appropriate duration of treatment to clear acne.3In practice, based on recent research and opinion, isotretinoin is continued until acne has cleared (defined as no active acne lesions), and then for another three to four months to limit recurrence.1, 3 This approach tends to result in a shorter duration of isotretinoin treatment than with most cumulative dosing regimens,3 while maximising patient outcomes and minimising adverse reactions.

Hahaha so that means I should still take it for 3-4 months since my acne has not really cleared yet.... I guess I'm the number 1 candidate for a recurrence. I'm damned!!

What is the source ?

DERP AND KIM: order Dr. Dan's cortibalm on Amazon immediately and thank me later. I've been using it from day 1 and it has never let me down. I only apply a few times a day and once before bed.

My face is still rocked. I was looking at pics from months 2 and 3 and things were peachy. Why is it all going to hell? I have red spots on my forehead, nose, cheeks, chin, jawline and now down to my neck! Another couple pop up daily and some of them ITCH! I feel like it's a rash and not typical zits. I'm going to try putting hydrogen peroxide on them today bc they seem to be spreading and I want to kill the bacteria. Any other suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?

Kim - interesting article about low doses. A little too late for us now but maybe we will go that route if we have to do the dreaded second course. :(

Are you guys totally wiped out and weak? I was a disaster in hot yoga yesterday. And I felt like my ankle was about to break and it's sore today. I hope I'm not injuring myself but, like, bikini season is approaching! Haha

I am so self conscious about my weird chicken pox face that I've been a recluse. Things have got to start looking up soon...

Hey Marilyn

Thanks for the suggestion..but

Ive been using Dr Dan from the get go..my derm told me only use 2x a day but i used it more..my lips were great until about a week+ or so ago

I have NO IDEA why but nothing helps now...I apply Dr Dan 4-5x a day and everything and anything else every half hour and they are a hot peeling mess!

I have the red blips..I call them

NOT really zits..no head...just red small bumps

they dont itch though...tried BP and a sulfur lotion my derm gave me..but my skin is super sensitive so im not sure what else to do/try?

My derm thought it was due to dehydration but i dont think so

adding extra moisturizer didnt help

and yes I am completely lethargic and exhausted all the time

terrible feeling..never feel rested..run down

I hate my face

I have indentions in places I dont ever remember breaking out

some weird red blip..old scars and my skin looks red and patchy...ugh

odd because i use to have those pesky blackheads in my t-zone..nothing could kill them

Think they have been gone since mnth 2

so where are these blips or random breakouts coming from

underneath it all I want to believe i have nice skin :)

I am a stay at home mom and stay in most of the time unless I have to go out

I also am not looking forward to upcoming events where i will see family/friends I havent seen in a while

def though by now I would look like snow white...well maybe a darker version..not that pale :)

Did u say second course?

:crazy::crazy::crazy:

noooo no noooooooo

After bragging of super clear skin for a week I am having a third breakout. Not terrible. Just one big ass cyst and two little zits. Saw a whitehead for the first time in a month.. Ahh! I have to say my skin looks so much healthier than it did pre-accutans. Only lime a few blackheads in my nose, everything looks smoother and more toned. Not sure how to explain it. Anyways I hope this breakout clears. This cyst will be staying with me for a few months....

Sorry Cshock :(

I know it sucks. but u arent alone

I didnt have my first big breakout until 4-5 weeks into tane than I had about 2 additional bad episodes

minus the daily or close to daily small bumps

Oh Mary that wasnt my intentions

SORRY

I was focusing on low dose..taking 20mg for 6 mnths and being done..can u imagine??

Im also freaked as we are in the SAME boat

I really think it is some kind of irritation caused by tane

I dont know what else can be going on?

I will see my derm next week and ask her plan for an extra mnth (7th)

Even if she doesnt agree I might just take my left over tane until all the meds I have are done

Dr gave me 2 mnths of 75mg and i never took that amount so I have some extra that could probably push me through a 7th or even 8th mnth

freaking yeahhh

*eyes roll*

Don't worry Kim, I'm not mad at you! Just so fed up about all what is being said about Tane, we don't know anymore what is the best! Even if I wanted I don't think the Dr would agree for more months, it was already hard to have that extra month!! I know people who had a similar course to mine and they are acne free since then so I try to focus on it. But they took it when they were teenagers so I don't know if I can really compare. My face is getting very dry again. For the first time since I started, my lips are becoming an issue. They are very dry and they crack a bit. Above my upper lip is a dry mess. I have been feeling dehydrated for the last couple days, I don't know why. Last weekend, I loved my skin but now it's back to being ugly. Ahhhhhhh!!!!!

Yup lips issues here as well..really bad last 2 weeks

I was just talking to another person on this site (might have seen the exchange on this board)

Anyway ..she was on tane 9 mnths...still getting breakouts and blips

Dr thinks its because her skin became so sensitive due to the tane, and now she needs to wait for the tane to get out of her system

Im afraid we think the answer is to continue tane or take more..maybe our bodies have had enough to treat acne, and we actually need to stop!

skin is breaking out due to dehydration and or irritation?

of course I dont want to stop too early and relapse...or not take enough tane and relapse...but dont want to dig my hole any deeper

sucks not knowing!

Im super super bummed today because i think my skin is getting so irritated

more weird flat red spots....feels like mild sun burn

I dont know what to do to sooth it

another red blip by my left eye

:dozing::dozing:

UGH

yeeks

I havent changed anything else...

I also have been using MORE moisturizer...but again not helping..extra eye cream and all I get is a new eye blip
