Hi Everyone,

First of all, it is so nice to see how you all are supporting each other.

And I was wondering if I may join you in this journey.

Let me introduce myself first. I am Arte, 24 years old and female. I started accutane 25 days ago. The first two weeks I was on 20mg, and since day 14 on 30mg.

My acne started to get out of control about 1,5 years ago. It began when I started (and quit after three months due to non-acne related side effects) hormonal contraception. Before that, I was a confident young woman (at least concerning my appearance). Now, my confidence has reached point zero. Just as my social life.

When I started accutane, my acne was (i thought) at its worst. But I was wrong. In week two, it became even worse. It is the initial breakout I guess. But oh men, it is hard. I am praying that this will be over soon. This is where I am stuck now.

I hope you are all doing fine.

With Love

Welcome Arte!!!

For me, friday was 30 days on tane

Im about 128-130 pounds and I was put on 20mg tane for the first 2 weeks...it was GLORIOUS

My oily skin dried up and not a single breakout

I bumped to 40mg and all hell broke loose...worse breakouts of my life and skin became dry...lips peeling

blah

The odd thing is my forehead, left side and chin are clear but my right side looks like a grenade went off on my face..red..painful..just sad

Im trying to stay positive/strong

My derm wants me to bump to 60mg than 80..I dont how thats possible...im not changing my dose intil at least after the holidays

Good luck, kim

Holidays stink a little with crap skin but time should go by quickly!!

Happy holidays to all!

I am a little scared of the breakouts now and possible damage to my skin

I have never seen or had breakouts like this before....amoeba shaped scary painful things

even when I dont touch they leave a flat red angry mark

fingers crossed they dont stay with me for too long

Same here

Last night was really tough

I have people coming to our home for xmas..I know..I hope in the long run this will be worth it

I messed with one, tried ice it because it hurt and Im really afraid I damaged the skin around it

Crazy how it is ONLY my right side

I took pics last night and my left side is completely smooth and free of a single bump

crazy!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

The holidays are tough times indeed. Luckily, the days are short and skin looks a hell lot better when there is no daylight shining on it.

In 2015 we will all have clear skin!

Kimber, have you ever tried calendulan cream? It really helps to prevent scarring, skin heals a lot faster and it even kills the acne bacteria. You can even put it on an open wound. When i put it on a pimple, it heals like three times as fast. And it is completely natural, and non irritating. I have found some studies in which it is compared to benzoylperoxide and has the same result, without the drying effect. the official name is calendulan oficialis flower extract, I believe. I can absolutely recommend it.

I can understand your fear of breaking out even more right now.

At the moment i clean my face with a super cheap cleanser for sensitive skin from the drugstore. As for moisturizer, during the day I use aloe vera gel, and for the night I use a vitamin c serum to help with dark spots and on top of that a thick layer of organic vitamin e creme. But i have never had a problem with sensitive skin, so i have no idea if it will work for you. Do those high tolerance moisturizers form the pharmacy make you break out as well?

Woah, todays christmas eve! Time flies by! Hopefully that applies to the tane also. My wishes for 2015 are that we all have great skin, we regain our lost confidence, or course, health, food and shelter for all, qnd that someday during that year we can look at our past pics and laugh at how gross our skin was. Happy Holidays! Felices Fiestas! Frohe Weinachten fur alle!

My skin is still quite bad. My forehead and chin are doing ok for now, the small cyst on my right cheek has gone down, but has left an angry flat red mark. My most horrible area is the one on my left cheekbone, has been going up and down since day 1 and doesnt seem to want to go the fuck away. I can deal with the hyperpigmentation, which takes an eternity to go away, but that i can hide. But i cant deal with the painful pimples abd the hard bumps under the skin that swell and become red. Omg. But hey, its Christmas Eve and acne isnt going to snap away my holiday happiness.

Remember to do your battle cry when you look at the mirror. It helps me. Because in the end, were All in for a battle between your mental strength and your acne.

Cheers!

Ana

EVERYTHING seems to break me out

Ive tried super high end, all natural, drug store..frustrating!

Just want to make sure I am not using something that is causing more breakouts!

Hey Ana!

Happy xmas eve to all

My face looks like crap as well

Mostly flattened out but nasty painful red marks left behind that will take ages to go away

i just have my fingers crossed, and maybe naively, that the worst has passed and it will be bigger and better from this point!!!

Im going to try NOT to think about my face and enjoy lots of yummy food, family, kids and smidge of booze :)

enjoy everyone!

I'm very sorry for your health issues, but we have all made a well-informed decision to take this medicine. And we have all decided that the possible risks do not outweigh the benefits. Nevertheless: correlation does not mean causation. You have no idea if your health issues would have occured if you had never taken accutane.

Merry Christmas everyone!

My skin is still badbadbad. I looked at it in bright sunlight today and it made me even more depressed. I do notice a difference in texture, it is smoother, and for the first time i can see some pores. I just now realize that really everything was clogged. Today will be the end of month one. I have one more month until I have to show my face in public again. This semester I took courses I could do at home, but that will not be possible for the next semester. If it would just be down a little so I can hide it with make up then I would be happy. I will graduate this summer and move to another city to get another degree. A fresh start with hopefully by then, a clean face.

Did Santa bring anyone some improvement yet?

LOL..it is that bad

My mars are fading..surprisingly well

One started bleeding last night when I washed my face..I havent touched it in 2 days

BUT might have to stop spotting..skin is just too thin/sensitive

Had a few drinks yesterday and took some silly pics

Its a miracle what makeup and bad lighting can do for the self esteem :)

well hope everyone is recovering well!

Merry Christmas everyone! My face is also horrible! I think it is at its worst now. Not in terms of quantity of pimples but in their quality.... They have very hard white heads that seem very deep. I have a huuuuuuuuuuuuge one on my cheek but as long as it is only red, I try to stay positive. I prefer this to crusty ones (gross, I know). My skin is also a little drier (nose, inside and around, ''mustache'' zone, chin). My nose bled (actual blood flowing out of it) like 3-4 times since yesterday. Maybe that's because of the heating my parents use at their home. Back home, I plugged the moisturizer hoping it will help. I have some rash on my hands too, very very small red bumpy dots, but they don't itch. I think the upped dosage starts to kick in (60 mg for 16 days now). My biggest concern is, as I told you earlier, increased facial hair. I really can't tell for sure that it is due to Accutane, but I have read that some others experience increased ''peach fuzz'' on the face. I did not really find useful information about it, but from what I understand, it is supposed to go back to normal after the treatment... but I don't understand how... I mean once some hair has grown, it can't ''ungrow'' so does it fall? Can its texture change once it has grown? It is still bearable, even though I panick everytime I take a close look in the mirror. I just don't want it to turn into real hair, I mean like dark hair. If it worsens, I won't be able to do any hair removal before a couple of months so I'm worrying a lot.

My lips are not so bad, way better than what I expected before starting. My salvation is Lip Medex by Blistex.

No other bad side effects. I am really looking forward to that day I will tell myself 'I'm so happy I did it''. I have not seen improvement yet.

Good luck everyone, we have to keep on being strong!

Hey Mary!

i def have peach fuzz..not too bad

Lately I have to admit Ive been pondering my decision to start tane...I admit it!!!!!

My skin is worse, dry, red, bumpy (anyone else have red bumpy/horrible texture)

Im afraid to glop on moisturzier as I might break out even more

being left with red scars...*sigh*

sorry for the downer..guess feeling worried and concerned tonight

I have to admit I pondered it too because of the hair increase. It is so ironic that I was dreading hair loss!! As for the bad acne on my face, I can deal with it, since I have had it for the past 15 years (with some clearer times). I would say that overall the texture of my skin is not sooo bad but the acne is ugly. I guess it's just a hard moment to go through!

Hey everyone, hope you all had a great christmas!

En1gma, your skin actually looks a lot better than I thought it would from your posts, maybe you're being a little hard on yourself. I know it sucks to have any acne on your face, but I honestly think its looking ok and is nothing to be too worried or hung up about.

My skin's got a little worse again, my right cheek/neck has a lot of red zits and my chin has broken out again which was clear before. Also drier skin/lips. I'm guessing this is the increased dosage finally reacting with my skin after just over a week on it. I'm really hoping it will clear up a little over the next few days for new years celebrations. On a positive note, my skin isn't any worse than before accutane, and i've not had any side effects other than dryness so thats a big plus.

I have to agree!!!

I dont think the pics were 'bad' at all..on the outside looking in, but iI know how difficult it has been for ME to walk around the last 4 years with breakouts like that AT ALL TIMES

Im do feel guilty at times complaining when I know there are others suffering with far worse than what I complain about

I know it has still been a tough road for all of us!
