Hello. I am writing to see if anyone has any experience on the following, I am in the UK but all replies are welcome.
I have been offered isotretinoin by a dermatologist in the past. At that time I refused, but I am now at the point where I consider it to be my last remaining option. My age is 32, and everything else has been tried on several occasions.
Here is the problem: I am also currently taking medication for depression. My doctor has referred me to a dermatologist but she cautioned me that they may be reluctant to prescribe isotetinoin in light of my existing metal state.
I have checked, and it is not a contraindication and therefore in theory, I feel a prescription is possible. I am determined to gain access to the drug one way or another but I would obviously like to smooth the way if at all possible.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar situation? What was the dermatologist's position on this?
Thanks
Emphasizing the role acne has in triggering your depressive symptoms is probably a very good tactic. The fact that you are on medication for it might be a positive actually, since it would show that your depression is controlled. Can you get a psychiatrist involved? Not sure how the UK system works.
I'm curious of the same thing. I actually started Accutane 2.5 years ago and had to stop early on due to some side effects that were worrying me [palpitations mainly]
I have pre-existing depression, that is largely exacerbated by my acne. Without the acne, my depression [and self image] would be a hell of a lot better. I think I'd be 80% less depressed, if that makes sense. It's largely situational for me.
I haven't ruled out trying Accutane again, because my acne has flared up so badly lately that I'm practically hiding in my house because I can't stand socialising, but I'm scared it will cause those side effects again or make my depression seriously severe.
