I am 26 year old male,
took 10 m accutane(roaccutane) twice a day for 2 month last year.
Severe back pain along with joint, muscle, bone pain and shortness of breath made me stop taking it,
and it's been 8 month off of the drug but the symptoms did not go away...
Yes, it's become mildly better in the sense that I can now walk, and bend my back... my knees don't hurt as much as they did,
but, i feel like all my bones became weaker and damaged, like they are so dry they hurt when i move my arms, legs, ankles, etc
and they make bone noise when moved...
I have shortness of breath, I can't take a deep breath, it's like my breathing ability got weakened or something... My derm said it's nothing to do with the drug, and i had several tests such as blood test, x rays, CT, electrocardiography, pulmonary function test, urine test, etc...but results were all fine.... doctors are saying it seems like anxiety disorder or something... haha....
I was so healthy before taking it,,, i was even in army...for 2 years. but now. i feel so depressed and sad for my chest feels tightened and i can't breath properly, all my bones feel weird... i dont know what to do about it.
Does side effects go away after a long time? or do i have to live with it forever? i feel so sad if so...
I'm so sorry you're going through this. I would speak to your GP about any symptoms that you are feeling as once you are off the drug, the symptoms should go away. Some people unfortunately experience life long symptoms from accutane.
Visit your doc before jumping to conclusions.
Thx for reply.
I'm just wondering if those symptoms are usual side effects of the drug.

Yes, they are and I would have assumed the low dose you were on that side effects would subside after you stopped. What lab work did you have done and how long ago? Have you tried any supplements, such as Vit D, Magnesium, Biotin, H.A. etc..??? Have you seen a Rheumatologist? Have you tried yoga, stretching etc.
Thank you.
After I felt that I had a backache I went to my dermatologist, but he said it was nothing to do with the drug, so I kept taking accutane
until I finally couldn't take it anymore because of shortness of breath. Scared of the side effects, I autonomously quit and went to Pulmonology
and did some tests such as blood test, x rays, CT, electrocardiography, pulmonary function test, urine test, etc only to find that nothings was wrong.
Without precise diagnosis, I just waited for my body to recover naturally, because I heard most of the side effects would disappear once off the drug.
I tried Omega 3 with Vit D, E, C, and I don't really know if those supplements helped or not, but I felt that symptoms did subside only very slowly.
But, I wasn't satisfied with my recovery... Yes, it was getting better, but now I can't even tell if it really got better or I just got used to it....
I went to Pulmonology again, because my breathing problem was the most annoying symptom I could not stand... compared to other symptoms such as bone pain or muscle pain. Back then, I couldn't even walk for an hour because my knee hurt(felt stiff) and now it is not too bad, I can walk and bend my back but still have the weird feeling when I move my bones.
Doctors didn't recommend me to go to Rheumatologist, so I didn't have chance to go there. But after your comment, I think I should in a near future.
I want to ask, if these side effects could be cured. I heard some positive feedback that since I only took it for a short time on low dose, it is likely to be
okay. But right now, I am so worried... and regretful.
Did you also experience bad side effects? and how has it been recovering? Only rarely do people experience this kind of severe side effects, i heard, so I am having hard time to find the answer for my symptoms...
Thank you.
