Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this site and decided to see if I can get some helpful information from past/present accutane users. I started my accutane treatment this week (Tuesday) and am currently on a 30mg per day dose. I have read the good and bad reviews and have done my fair share of research before deciding to go this route, but due to the severity and persistence of my acne I finally said screw, it i'm trying it! I've read all about the dry lips and dry skins (I think I can deal with these), but what has me the most worried is something I have seen only a few articles about and its for females developing vaginal dryness. I'm terrified that this will happen to me and be a lasting effect that never goes away! I'm 30 years old and my sex life is very important to me. I'm terrified about this happening and never going away as i've read a few horrifying posts from women who have noted this taking place. Any advice or personal stories would be greatly appreciated. I'm almost scared to continue my treatment at this point. Please let me know what everyone thinks and has experienced.
Thanks so much!
In all honesty, I have not heard of this side effect, although it makes sense because everything else dries out!
I am on my second course of Accutane, and have never experienced this. I have never noticed any changes 'in that area'. I wouldn't worry too much, the stress of worrying about it is probably more likely to cause problems than the Accutane. I'm sure this side effect is possible, but I think it must be extremely rare. I hope so, anyway! Good luck with your course.
I did notice some dryness issues In the beginning of my course, but It may have been attributable to another medication. One thing I noticed that helped (even if it wasn't accutane causing the issue) was to drink extra water. It sounds like an obvious fix, but it worked for me. Even if you do experience that issue, it is doubtful that it will be a permanent problem.
I'm 34 and just started my 3rd course this week. I've been on it 3 times now over the course of close to 20 years. Vaginal dryness was never a side effect I experienced. Only side effects I had was really dry lips that were painful at times and the inside of my nose was always cracked and dry. I can't remember the 1st time I took it but the second time I never experienced an initial breakout either. Each time it keeps my skin clear for about 10 years. My lips never went back to 100%. They tend to be more dry then other peoples but nothing that any one notices or has ever commented on. and not nearly as bad as when I was on accutane. I probably just have to use chapstick more often then regular people. This is a very small price for me to pay for clear skin.
Hello!
Ive recently finished my course of accutane and I did indeed have this side effect. I also suffered a lowered libido which really sucked for me as i got married during my course!!!
I had to use some lube and everything seemed ok, but it did hurt sometimes during intercourse.
Ive been off accutane for a month now and i seem to get more moist down there now which is good. I also think my sex drive is coming back bit by bit. Im hoping everything goes completely back to normal. And as everyone is different, you may not even get this side effect or you could get it worse than I did.
Its all part of the gamble we take with accutane.
I started accutane (generic version) in the beginning of february and before i decided i was also researching about the possible side effects. Honestly that was one side effect that i saw people mentioning , and i was also worried about that. But as all the side effects it can happen, although being a permanent side effect must happen in more rare cases. Besides that, in all the amount of information i read, people seem to almost never talk about that - it's always the same: dry lips, dry face, bla bla... I don't know if it's not experienced a lot, or people seem too shy to talk about it... Anyway, i am 2 weeks further in the treatment and still haven't experience nothing bad...and i hope i'll never will... if you experience some dryness you better use lube to make things easy and painless... And good luck for us
