Hi everyone
Im almost 4 weeks in on accutane 60mg a day i weigh 70kg. This is my second course i relapsed after the first one. Im female late 30s and have had cystic acne for 24 yrs now mainly mouth , chin , jaw and sometimes cheeks.
I have had the most awful breakout this past week at one stage 10 cysts on the one side of my face painful and totally ruin my face . What can i put on my face to help soothe the cysts and how long can i expect this breakout to last ?
Im being pro active in my acne had hormones tested all came back fine am wondering whether to try a bcp as well as the accutane
any thoughts welcome as these cysts keep me awake at night and are truly horendous
Emma
I have no cysts but for me icing is great.. i don't know if it will work for cysts, i hope it does.. i fold an icecube inside a paper and apply it for 10 min. to the zit.. then wait another 10 min. and then apply again for another 10 min. It is the best treatment i have ever tried. However i want to warn you about this: my hormones were normal but i was convinced my acne was hormonal. I had acne, unwanted hair, period irregularity... the first time i tried spiro it made my skin smooth and painless without an ib, it was a dream. Now i haven't cleared up yet but i suspect it's a matter of wrong dosage. If you have these symptoms even if your hormones are normal, try hormonal treatmen.. it could be that your androgen receptors are too sensitive and overeact to normal amount of hormones resulting to acne. Accutane can't permanently treat hormonal acne, after some time it comes back because the root of the problem is something else.

I dont have unwanted hair or irregular periods just the acne since aged 14 been on every antibiotic over that time and so many topicals , having a scan to look for PCOS but the only symptom i have of PCOS is acne . Have read that yasmin is the best bcp to try did you try bcp ?
If accutane fails im going to ask about spiro
thanks for all the info
No i didn't try bcp because i have migraines and family history of blood clots so i didn't want to push my luck. I hope you will have success with accutane this time but if you want birth control (if you are in a relationship you definitely need it) you could try an anti-acne bcp. Green Gables has a great topic about the best pills for acne
I'm on my first round of Accutane and my face was perfect for four days, fifth day I broke out. I've got two huge cysts on my chin and numerous nodules around my neck. When I used to get them I'd apply Sudocrem (Zinc oxide based ointment, nappy cream in some cases). Last night I applied Sudocrem all over my face - it took down all of the 'tane induced redness and the cysts are going down. They hurt and itch but they're less visible and less painful. At a push hydrocortisone can be used topically on one or two lumps - don't smother your face because it can induce rosacea as it is a steroid.
